That ad was a bit of a con. I remember reading on another forum years ago, they strengthened the cars on the lower levels first with internal framework. I'm a bit less certain on this next bit, but I think the same post (or thread) went on to say they're actually the car you do not want to be inside, in a rollover.
I'm unconvinced by this. Simply from my experience cutting up cars, 240s are WAY better built than most - particularly in the pillars.
Also, you never see post-rollover Volvos with the turret flattened. Walking around the old A-Class wreckers was always an interesting exercise - lots of cars with significant damage, but very, very rare to see one with a badly damaged passenger compartment.
That said, anyone who thinks they "must" outperform a modern, multi-airbag car in a crash, is kidding themselves. Check the 5th Gear video of a 940 losing a fight with a Renault Modus if you need convincing.
