Hello. Seeking some advice. I'm looking at a vehicle that has an intermittent fault with the instrument cluster, causing it to lose power. I'm led to believe this is caused by either a bad battery or a defective cluster. My question is, Can you continue driving if the cluster shuts down?
Thanks, M

Legally no (vehicle must have a working speedometer to start or continue a trip)
Illegally... it will keep driving
Clusters failure could be a sign of can bus issues
Taking a risk on buying a car like this is not worth your time

Thanks PB.
Plan on illegally using a gps?. Car starts and runs well, but has been sitting for several months and the description of faults seems to indicate to replace or repair the instrument cluster.
Apart from that the vehicle has a service history and looks ok. Price is reasonable too.

Yeah but 5 speed trans of guaranteed failure

Are they really that bad? Is it a design issue or maintenance thing?
Thanks, M
