Hi all,
I bought my Volvo 240 as my daily driver with the aim of keeping it a year. That was May 2015 and while it's still serving me faithfully I have another car. One of them must go (not fussed either one).
The car is original, has travelled~300,700 km. Gentleman I bought it from was his father's car and before that his father's neighbour's car from new. Built & complianced 9/84. I have original manual & service book.
I'm asking $3,500. It cost more than that to put on the road:
It had a rust spot in the floor (from below), in front of the driver's seat, which was repaired by my mechanic for RWC at the time (mid 2015), along with a host of new parts (battery, air filter, front tyres, wheel alignment, timing belt kit, water pump, replaced coolant and brake and transmission fluids, auto transmission kit, new brake hoses, new windscreen, oil & filter change.
I've changed fuel filter, oil, oil filter, spark plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor, and have from memory a spare (new) oil pressure switch, fuel pump relay, and flame arrester (or whatever it's called) in the 25,000 km I've driven it - so due at least for an oil / filter change.
There's a leak from the transmission I think (it was a bit low around Christmas) and/or power steering (I have had to top it up three times).
The suspension crashes a fair bit - not sure if that is normal or not, as I've never driven a 240 before. But the car drives well, doesn't wander over the road, pulls strongly, no slack in the steering, is reasonably economical, changes gears very smoothly, has excellent brakes ... but pings sometimes on low throttle openings (stops when you put your foot down).
Paint is average. I've sprayed driver's side fender and door tops because it was so unsightly with the clear coat peeling. I'm sure others would do a much better job!
Interior is good. Small crack on the dash but not visible from driver's seat.
Air conditioning doesn't click in - it wasn't a priority for me so I haven't investigated it.
I think that about covers it.
