Essbos;97321 wroteI think if I was going the engine swap option it would become an 8 valve car @blondejay the spare engine is a complete b230 with a 530 head.
The power steering mounting appears to be different to 8 valve cars also
@Major Ledfoot
The 16v uses totally different mounts, hence my motivation to mend this engine.
Thanks, so I guess with any luck I'll just be up for some valves, guides, and gaskets.
Good point about the power steering pump, IIRC the 16V pump sits up on the left, while the 8V is down and on the right.
If you do pull the engine from the car to repair it, be mindful also of the oil pump pulley and bolt. The oil pump pulley is NLA, but is known to fracture near the bolt hole. Note also that the bolt was upgraded from M8.8 to M10 (IIRC) due to the former shearing, see the 700/900 FAQ for details, While you're at it, deleting the balance shafts and plugging the oil holes can't hurt anything. If you decide to keep the balance shafts, you can pick up a couple of BHP by not re-attaching the balance shaft belt. There's no danger to the engine, since B230s had 16V heads on marine engines that ran at 4500 RPM all day and they didn't have balance shafts...
