  • 1986 740 Turbo sedan T5 swapped!

Tl:dr
1986 740 Turbo sedan
Engine and chassis 230xxx km
T5 manual swapped.
Dynoed 157.7 rwkw @ 4600 rpm
How much: $8000 RWC and rego til June, $6000 without

Detailed:
After weighing out the options I've painstakingly decided it's best to let it gooooo~ (hate that song) for travel funds.

Over the past 2 years of ownership I've taken this car from bone beef stockpot to basically road registered race car. I began cleaning it up a lot initially and replaced virtually most of the running mechanics. Improvements to handling and power has made this elegant suburban lady into a wild Amazon woman.

Just going off the top of my head, have probably missed a few things.

Engine bay:
Unopened B230FT 140psi across all cylinders with LH 2.2
Stock TD05 12B turbo
Full timing belt, balancer and water pump service 222xxx km
Regular oil changes with 10w40 Semi syn
Coolant hoses, genuine thermostat
Changed copper spark plugs recently, top gun wires
Changed lots of seals and gaskets and hoses
Fuel filter mid 2016
Fuel injector seals October 2016
No leaks of any kind

Mods
Alex's swag intercooler
3" straight exhaust from 200 cell cat with resonator and muffler
Does not come with can catch but when I did only water came out = good rings!

Dynoed 157.7 rwkw @ 4600 rpm 12.5 psi. Yes even I find it hard to believe (on paper) but once you've driven this car you'll believe too. That's on E10 95 too! E10 is great, haters gonna hate.

Chassis/suspension/wheels
Converted auto to T5 Tremec from AU Falcon. Has been stripped and bearings replaced. Gearbox is very tight and shifts smoothly. eBay ripshifter and metal bushing cup.
BC coilovers 10 kg front, 4.5kg rear Eibach spring. Rides infinitely better than full BC setup.
Front conical poly bushings (the important ones)
Steering rack replaced and all new hoses inc pressure hose
940 front brakes with QFM A1RM and Penrite DOT 4
940 3.9 ratio Welded diff
Wheels: full set of stock Dracos and Evo 8 Enkeis using 35mm spacer adapter #hellaflush

I've done 1:49 at Winton with shitty tyres on 11 psi before the rear springs. With nice rubber like Neovas 1:45 shouldn't be a far cry.

Exterior:
Paint faded on several panels and the roof is horrendous.
Rolled guards
Semi-custom front lip.
Aux fuel tank delete and converted to 940 setup

Interior (Spartan)
Stripped at least 50kg+
No heater, no aircon, no worries
Gauges: boost, wideband, MINUS water temp, oil temp/pressure,
12v power source 1 cig, 2 USB and voltmeter
Giordon alarm and immobiliser (still need to hook up immob)
Yes electric windows works, I'm not that crazy

Bad points:
Forgot to take photo of small windscreen crack on passenger side. Crack is on the inside when I was trying to strip the A pillar trim. Sadface.
Strut tower curved lip was grinded to allow camber adjustment
Accidentally cut the interior light/door trigger system

Closing comments:
Turn key race/drift car, just add cage and race seats! Or I can put back the trims, a working heater, make it roadworthy etc but my time and effort reflects the price difference.
Putting aside the superficial aspects this baby is in excellent mechanical condition. Starts up every time even after my recent 17 day interstate trip. I really love this car and after fixing all the previous owner's neglects, putting in the T5 it's hard to say goodbye. Wish I could've driven more than 10,000 km but my plane ticket awaits…

I know it's a lot to read but it's not just a sale ad, it's also a reflection of 2 years ownership with a bloody Volvo!

Hey! I have feelings too! ☺
I know seperating is a hassle, but I'm Interested in the Evo 8 Enkeis :-)
I can separate wheels no problem as long as car goes first :)
Be very keen to see the RWC cert on this one, it wont pass unless its a bent certificate Heater box required and working
He would fit a heater box for a roadworthy...
PRICE DROP to 8k and 6k respectively
But I'm keeping the 3 centre gauges and changing the PCV to stock setup. Also will be putting the trims back. Will post new photos when I'm done

Here's the windscreen crack:

In short these are the red flags for RWC:

Heater - Hard: putting back original HVAC unit. Easy: racing heater. Or temporary ninja style 12V heater
Strut tower lip - may require "patching up" i.e welding on the lip from another 740
Front windscreen - small crack I mentioned in the ad. About $230 to get new fitted.
Welded diff

The guy I previously did RWC passed my welded diff with the Enkeis/wheel spacers. So depending on the guy he may pass 1 or more things on that list. Also Vicroads didn't even care about the wheels/spacer
Want me to pull the section up from the roadworthy book that says locked diffs are not allowed?
