bigal Help. I have an oil leak. Appears to be coming from the top front (drivers side) of engine and trickling down. There was evidence of an oil leak the other day before an oil change. I thought it was a bad seal on the oil filter container but now not thinking that. Gave it a clean up now it's back. Yes I have a blocked PCV. Sticking a glove on the oil filler hole and it sticks straight up. Summoning @Philia_Bear and @VolvoDeger
bigal Haha i think i know what the problem is. Stupid me just realised i have 2 O-rings on that filter cartridge! I remember thinking "that's an interesting setup" and continued on. I must have a crappy seal now and oil is spraying everywhere. Maybe I can back the cartridge off slightly, chop the pink one off and tighten it back up leaving the black O-ring slightly higher to form the proper seal.
bigal Thanks. Fixed this morning before work.. Unscrewed the filter housing a little and pried off the pink O-ring seal. There is a black one further up I recall seeing the other day when I did the oil change and it's in the correct location (I compared to images I found on Google). Tightened it back up, degreased the area, drove 50km to work and had a look under the car and no oil leaks. The oil must of been spraying out with force if this was the leak. Perhaps a gummed up PCV can contribute to this pressurized oil spraying. I better do this PCV job as a priority!
Philia_Bear Drain oil into clean pan Then remove filter and check condition to make sure either o ring is usable Then re install and poor oil back in from the pan Also Fix the effing pcv stuff asap
bigal Still have an oil leak. Definitely coming from above. It appears slow but not good. Not coming from the oil filter area as it's covered again. Coming from this area above.. Ordering pcv gear tonight.
bigal I was hoping not to hear that word 'cam seal'. lol Just made a FCP order for the PCV gear and various other parts including a front cam seal. The rear cam seal was done not so long ago according to service receipts.
VolvoDeger Yes possible cam seal or most likely vvt cam unit, to check this take front cover off and then get some one to start the car for you and watch the cam gear unit. If the unit moves forward when engine started which most likely will be the exhaust side, the unit is stuffed and not sealing on the cam seal causing the leak. This is very common bigal...........
bigal No. New dipstick on it's way in the FCP order as my dipstick head snapped.. My current dipstick solution is holding up but wouldn't have a great seal. No evidence it's spraying out the top end of the tube. The tube o-ring down below has not been replaced. Will degrease again, let it idle and look over this area and the one Deger mentioned to find the leak. Thanks for the tips.
