There is a 1970 144 (auto) for sale in Perth. Has a cams license, lowered bilstein suspension and 16 t5 rims with 888 on it. I was going to buy it for its parts but just dont have the space and thought it would be a pity to wreck it. I can dig the details out. White with blue interior (240 front seats) and has the early vertical tail lights.

Asking $1000 if you promise not to wreck it or $1500 if you are.
UltimateDave
Nah sorry Perth is too far away and it would end up costing too much to get there and back.

Depends... If it were, or could be, registered as is - there's a site online where people will drive the car - you just put from and to destination and wait. Not sure if you or they pay for fuel. And/or... There was a sale yesterday (maybe it's still on) at Tiger I think... $8 plane tickets. Fly over yourself, drive back.
Even if it couldn't be registered as is, as long as it was reasonable enough condition, NSW has temporary permits to drive an unregistered car. So other states probably do too. I did it just over a year ago. Think it was less than $50. You just time your drive back so you're sleeping near each State's RTA ready to get the new state's permit the next morning.

Transport isnt that expensive if its a good car.
egads
Only WA has the stupid one state permit. The rest honour each others.
Fingers crossed but should be selling the 144 to @UltimateDave .
UltimateDave
Probably going to get @egads 144 when things are sorted out, but in regards to cost for transportation, we are on a bit of a tighter budget and would be beginning to overspend if we paid for the car, the repairs, the permit and then the fuel all the way from perth.
markc88
@ultimatedave fair enough. I know its cheaper west to east (~$800) then east to west (~$1200) but can add up.
markc88
about 1/3 of the way driving back i reckon $800 would start to look pretty cheap! I drove the old S60r back to Perth from toowoomba and even in that car it felt like a vverryryyy long way.
UltimateDave
A bit of a rule of thumb i tend to go by is that if the trip there and back costs as much/more than the car, it might be better to look more local. But that's mainly because we don't have a large budget for such things.

@UltimateDave sounds like a sensible rule, unless it was orange, but its not. cheers mc

Deal fell through, still on the lookout.
