Hi there people, I've been searching this forum and cant seem to find what I want.
I have an 87 240 wagon and I want to put a holden V8 and auto. I have seen it done, but cant find any other info than, its been done before and 1 picture.
I'm not interested in a lsx conversion as the 304 has a much better note than the lsx and will go harder for less outlay untill you spend mega bucks with a carb, good old carby fed VL 5lt being produced untill 88.
Basically I want info on mounts and knowlege of what I will need to work around, I will be fabbing what I require myself, unless there are off the shelf mount kits and getting the car engineered afterwards.
Cheers guys!

Interesting choice to go carbied on an efi car. But the 304 stock does sound good. takes more to make them go faster than vs an ls and with a cam the ls sounds as good.
Because the 304 mounts the same as a chev, the jagsthatrun conversion book is valid for you. I think it's still sold. Not sure if there is much to say on mounts either... What is your skill level?

I'm a fitter/fabricator, years of tig welding, been playing with alloy for fun also, have a mill, lathe, plasma cutter, can do just about everything and I can ask my mate with his 5 axis cnc to knock something up if required.
And carby on an efi car is completly due to the simplicity.
Thanks for the info

300kw from a ECM hack/tune and a cam on a ls1....sound lumpy a/f and nothing got sneeze at. Tonnes of info regarding conversions the world over as well. I believe there is a number of guys undertaking boosted LS swaps atm locally.
I myself was considering this route. Though opted a different option.
Though in all seriousness who are we to say do this and do that, in favor of your preference.
There really isn't much of a nicer more than an over fueled carb, worked 8 off the throttle.

We have a V8 for sale, it would need a rebuild was on gas, but runs just come out of a 240, comes with engine mounts cross member bolt up and transmission. call us on 03 98745544, also have engine mounts for V8, somewhere in the workshop. and a 9 inch diff for a 240.

put the 9 in the ute. and get it some more HP

Volvo diff it has to be as on Club rego

Yeah, it should already be on M plates. So doesn't really matter what you stick in it. Anyways, back on topic. ;p
@eaglemat86 whats a basic desire f To the engine, tune etc?
eaglemat86
Basic desire was a holden v8 due to simplicity, but needing a 304 not a 308 has changed my mind a bit now as they seem to go for real money, not junk yard giveaways anymore.
So a complete changd of direction will happen and a nissan vh41 and auto is getting the nod.
Being a 4.1 it can be turbocharged legally and being a factory forged engine with 6 bolt mains its tough already.
Will start to happen after christmas, before are a bit of rust repair (bloody windscreen lol), replace window rubbers and a couple of trim bits and a fresh coat of paint.

Vh41 will have to look at that. Not familiar with it

Nissan motor. Not as common as a 1uz and there would be a good reason...

Dare to be different. Everyone has seen a 1uz. Im keen to see something different.
Philia_Bear
vh41 is a good motor
just parts are a little harder to find over some of the other choices
My main comment is to fit a better oil filter system, the stock one is mehh
egads
Cima front cuts are plentiful enough though, just less things that are Aus delivered.

It has to do with cost by the sounds of it, if people want decent money for a 304 (my mate gets running motors for around $1000-1500), so going with a lesser used motor with less upgrade options it cheaper to fit maybe, but not to upgrade....
