I know there are probably stacks of threads about this, but I just wanted to clear up some of the finer details.
I have a 92 240 with an AW70. It does frustrate me sometimes, for example it always changes between 3rd and 4th at the worst possible times. Hopefully it'll be better after I do a flush (which reminds me to ask actually - do I need to change the transmission filter to do a flush?), but ultimately I'd like to have a manual in it.
The general concensus on here seems to be that it's a good idea, but all the people who have done it seem to know what they're doing. I haven't done anything harder than changing spark plugs and cleaning the flame trap. Obviously I'm learning more things as I go, but would I be completely stupid to attempt a conversion? I guess it's probably more the smaller details that I'd be concerned about. For example, in
this thread, I don't even know what some of the parts in the list there are, or what they do.
In any case, such a thing wouldn't be happening for a while but I thought I might as well get a better understanding.
Also, I was leaning towards an M47 because I don't want to have to stuff around with the OD from an M46, but I can get an M46 more easily. How fiddly a job is it to have the OD working properly?
I've also read about an apparently rare flywheel that can be necessary - would I need it for my 92?
Is it doable just with ramps? I don't have access to a hoist.
Thanks in advance!
