Tree Short: 1986 Volvo 740 Sedan AUTOMATIC in Silver 222xxx kilometres Looking around $2400. RWC included Long: Joyous greetings, Listed here is my silver 1986 Volvo 740 Turbo Automatic. I bought her 9 months ago with the intention of turning her into a bit of a daily driver with track and drift duties. The idea was to convert the auto into a manual but since then I have recently acquired another 740 Turbo, which is a manual. The drivetrain and transmission is silky smooth, only done 222,xxx. But the best thing about this car is the condition of the engine. Compression test show 140 psi across ALL cylinders with 0.5-1 psi variation. I was amazed and very pleased at the consistency for something this age. The car has been stock as far as I know; there have been no engine bay modifications. There were two major structural RWC issues: rusted passenger floor pan and cracked front cross member. Both have been rectified. I've poured quite a lot of time and money into this car, way way more than I originally thought was needed for a RWC and partially because I was planning to keep it. I know I won't get back much of it (if any) but unfortunately she has to go as I'm happy with one project car and one daily driver. Don't get me wrong, this car has never left me stranded, it is very reliable and you can daily drive it (I did before buying another 740) but don't expect great fuel economy. It's between 10-12L per 100 km. The exhaustive list of what I've done/fixed • New timing belt • New crankshaft pulley and idler pulley • New water pump. • Upper and OEM expansion tank coolant lines with 50/50 Nulon Green • One new heater hose out of 3 • New OEM thermostat • New drive belts (power steering and alternator) • New air filter • New spark plugs and wires • New brake lines and fluid • Regular oil and filter changes with Penrite semi or full synthetic 10w40 • Changed diff oil • New windscreen • Swapped cracked crossmember to a later reinforced model • New steering rack ends • Changed steering rack to good condition 2nd hand. Supplied and fitted by Berry motor • LHS passenger floor pan rust fixed (cut and weld in new piece) • Fixed cruise control • I've taken the liberty to change the front struts from a 760 style to the standard 740 which also has bigger brake discs • Fixed fuel aux tank breather hose - fill up to max no more leaks! Previous owner had already done: • Reconditioned injectors • New brake booster • New fuel pump The not so good: The wiring in the engine bay has somewhat deteriorated, a common problem amongst early 740s. I've only had one issue however and it's the injector resistor pack which I've soldered back so that was an easy fix. I've deleted the A/C units but I've still got the parts so you can hook it back up. There was still some pressure when we disassembled it. Apparently it's had a minor bingle on the front fender but no structural damage and still drives straight. Rear LHS shock makes knocking noises (but still firm, weird) letting us know its due for a replacement soon? Paint is faded on the roof and various panels. Everything listed so far is basically cosmetic, this car is mechanically sound. Doesn't come with radio because I butchered it to fit modern headunit (not included). I have the original decals/badges on the car but haven't had time to stick it on yet. As she is currently on club permit, I have to cancel the permit to transfer ownership but I will include RWC for your convenience. Come for a test drive, words alone won't do justice. Tree Okay here they are! https://flic.kr/s/aHskjNm915 Yes I should mention I drive with a light foot usually under vacuum and 3k RPM and most of my driving is on the highway. Can easily go above 12L/100km with a lead foot.
deleted_user_160 Yup, with the 14b I averaged 10/100 every tank with the 55lt. Sadly don't get that now
Vee_Que I get 12-14 with a heavy foot ;) So better off having fun than driving like a grandma. Put a good ad on gumtree, don't mention the negatives.
Tree I've still got a couple things left to polish then she's fully ready for gumtree, VolvoVic, carsales etc. This ad is just to get my arse into gear. I'll take better photos as well. I'm an honest seller, I won't sugar-coat if there's negatives. I've had good experience selling with honestly in the past. Human relationships > money :)>-
