  • here we go 142s resto

Ok here we go again.

The 69 142s has arrived from Melbourne and it looks like it was a great punt. It would appear a 1 owner 148k car which was left outside for 20 years so interior and paint is fairly sunburnt, however (!) No rust, no damage and the original motor and all the attachment (ie original airbox on the strombergs). It goes, stops and changes really well so a very pleasant surprise.

With the economy sagging over here im putting my more expensive resto's on hold and am going to DIY on this one which is great frontier for me as im usually pretty hopeless, but this one looks simple enough. Ill get some photos up today from the office pc.

I was looking around at it this morning and the original delivery book and stamped service history was under the seat, very funny.

This seems like great forum for advise and I do admire the technically capable amongst the group so bare with me please!

Cheers mark
Pics! The economy hasn't really gotten worse. Just iron ore prices dropped :p
140's are a great car to DIY on. So simple and all so accessible.
So question 1, anyone know best place to source a matching interior or the material?!

And a new dashpad.

Cheers Mark
What on the interior needs replacing? I have a couple of blue leather 164 seats in the shed if that is what you are keen for. It would need adding of the mechanism for the flip forward though.
Any other bits you need?

If you're after brand new door cards and upholstery, VP AutoParts. Shipping from Sweden wasn't cheap, but not a killer either, and they had the NOS 142 door card I couldn't get anywhere. <p>
And a new dashpad.
I got my '73 dash pad recovered recently, and you can see the results here - note how he's matched the original vinyl 'grain'.

PS: that's a nice car you have.

Hi @egads‌

The door cards and rear side panels are peeling.

Seats are ok with foam intact but a tear in the side (vinyl) part of the drivers seat. All faded pretty bad.

I tried vp @bgpzfm142‌ but nothing in stock.

We had it running yesterday much better (previous owner has 2 leads back the front!) And ill try and get it club registered later this week. Bit easier than getting the others on the road.

Cheers and tx , mark
Very nice!
Sell your Porsche there and fund the build?

Seems like the only reason the state economy is not good is that your illustrious leader squandered all the royalties that he did get or could have if he had a brain , dumb lnp.....

Still plenty of work on thenew gas train up north? They are building an extra 1800 dongers to expand on the 4000 men there now. Get in while ye can.
Hi @‌egads i swapped some emails with them during the week and they dont have them unfortunately so ill have to search around.

@Ex850R‌ problem with selling stuff is dealing with the public and working on gas projects have to deal o&g people! Melbourne construction seems the ticket at the moment.

Not much on here atm or very much in future , we have no manufacturing any more , maybe if the roads and rail go ahead then ....maybe , they tend to get dummies with no knowledge or even history of working on these jobs just so they have no issues with workplace safety being adhered to for one thing , and dont pay all that well as the damn AWU sticks its nose in , does deals with the bosses and excludes a union that would normally cover these things , its all gone to shit really. TRhe sign of whats to come...Trans Pacific trade deal will kill any work at all for us , all will be imported.

Anyway! Have a ball fixing that wee beastie up!!
And photos will endear you to us here forever!!

That's sweet......looks as nice as my 142!
Possibly your paint is a touch better and my interior is a touch better....and mine is a '73!

As @egads‌ mentioned, the site is a bit difficult to navigate. Do you know your upholstery code? You'll find it on this plate as shown here.

Yours looks to be blue in the photos, but VP Auto list several different blues there.

When you find door cards, you'll also need a supply of those little fastener buttons too (p/n 680097).
