shorty Hey out there in volvo land.....I would love to score an AWD volvo station wagon in great condition at a fair price but have heard that the transmissions are dodgy...what is the deal with that.?..which models have the problem and have volvo fixed this. Finding it hard to believe that a company that makes a very good quality car like Volvo would put out something so crap.. What is the problem with the trans ?. Would love to know the ins and outs of this particular ducks bum..
Rob @shorty There is lots of discussion here (and elsewhere) about this. Basically the transmission that gives trouble is the 5 speed auto fitted to P2 Volvos (approx 2001 - 2007) AWD versions of the gearbox tend to give more trouble than FWD versions. If it has not failed, software updates and regular fluid flushing tend to keep them going fine. If it has had the software update early in its life and has had regular fluid changes it will probably be ok. If it has failed it will cost a significant amount to fix. Other than this P2 cars are not necessarily a bad thing, they are certainly cheap If you can find a manual one, buy it. If you can afford a P3 (08 onward) buy it. If you are happy with a slightly older looking car, buy a P80 (pre-00) .
shorty Thanks rob for your informative reply.about the gearboxes..and for the picture of the manual volvo...wonder if it is sold already. . ..
