850 Drivers side F+R doors won't open from inside

Sigh. So I took my car to a mechanic today to be inspected for a prospective interstate buyer. Get the car back and now both doors on the drivers side will not open from the inside despite being unlocked etc. The outside handle will still open them, and the movement of the internal handle otherwise feels and looks normal.

It's never had this issue before in the 8 years I've owned it but of course the mechanic (Quantum Mechanics, Hamilton, Newcastle) says they've done nothing to cause it.

Has anyone had this issue with their car? Very strange for two doors not to work now...

Gee, not happening b4 them , now happening.

Send the boys around and do some kneecaps.....That's the only thing to stop these knts

*and no, that's not normal at all.........

If they are VACC members or whatever in your state, send complaint. Get letter of intent printed up by lawyer.

    Give em hell.

Get on social media and hurt them.

  • It's just really annoying because I kinda don't have the time to be pulling doors apart to try to diagnose it, find whatever part I need etc. I don't even know how you manage to f#!k that up during a non invasive condition inspection? Like, literally no-one else I've ever had use my door handle has managed to somehow break two of them. This kind of thing is the reason I have always avoided "professional" mechanics with this car, they just never take care of things. Nearly every time I've taken a vehicle to a mechanic it comes back with other problems or a dodgy fix to the original problem.

They said I can bring it back and get them to look at it, but honestly I don't trust them taking the door apart not to just break other stuff in the process then disclaim responsibility for all of it. So I'll probably just fix it myself.

For the life of me I can't remember the exact ins n outs of inside the door but I had similar few years back .

I think it might have something to do with the rod going from the internal door handle to the door pin for some reason it rings a bell .

But on both doors , that's plain weird. Maybe they tried opening from inside and pushed the lever forwards instead of backwards, but again on both doors .

  • I had to replace 3 door lock mechanisms on a customer's 850R and it could be just plain bad luck. There is a rod that sits in 2 plastic bushes to open the door from the inside and they perish and all of a sudden they drop out. Quickest and easiest is just to replace the mechanism or inform the buyer.

  • And this type of thinking is disgusting!!! While it's disappointing it has happened, shooting your mouth off without any proof does nothing positive. They've offered to look at it and I suggest you take them up on it but be prepared to pay if they show you it's just purely bad luck/timing.

Michael , Man , you post 97% hate for wagon owners and 3% brilliant content. ( over many internet platforms)

You hardly respond to requests for help.

    Yet,

You stand up for other businesses as a business owner yourself. Good on you but WHY!?

Nah mate , give over , "disgusting" ? You call me that? whaaaaaaat........Really? You think im an idiot?

    Think about it son................Grow up.

Too many people get fvked over these days , exposing the knts is justifiable in this day , and should have been before now but the average punter is clueless and beholden to knts so. it. is. time.

Nobody said they would be looking at the car and why the fuck did it get to this anyway.

You poke the bear you get a reaction.

  • Your first response is to destroy a business that may have done nothing wrong... Your assumption is it's their fault... by all means, check out what happened and if you have proof then it can be taken further...

The second paragraph in the first response from the OP states "They said I can bring it back and get them to look at it"..... surely you can understand that...

What help was requested of me? Wasn't my response helpful? I am 99.9% positive my description of the problem will be accurate which will leave one 1 knt in this thread.

  • The link rod sits at the blue line in the first photo. You can see the perished and damaged rubber bush in the second photo and the missing bush in the third. That link rod is only held captive by the rubber bush so when the rubber is gone, the link falls out and the door won't open from the inside.

When was the last time the rear door was opened from the inside? That may have failed months ago and the RHF door just happened yesterday.

It takes years and years and years to build a trusted successful business and what right do you think you have to destroy that and knee cap the owner based purely on YOUR ASSUMPTION they did something wrong?

  • that’s a bit extreme…. Not sure kneecaps have anything to do with hand actuated door lock mechanisms

  • 14JEZJez @14JEZ Tingalpa

You can’t call somebody out for what could be a simple mistake. None of us are perfect!! And going kneecaps is overboard!!

Apologies all, the Scottish knt comes out in me. Bad shit outside of here had me a bit mental, I'm gonna stay away till things improve.

    *kneecapping is kool!

    Les

Edit. Left phone at home , would have been here first thing otherwise.

  • Sounds a berserk gremlin situation, but I would definitely remove the central locking relay and reinsert.

And if no change, tempting to disconnect the car battery for 15min as well.

Even remove the battery from the remote for a few ticks.

The remote sensor is behind the glovebox.

    Super good luck.

    Fixed yet , what's the outcome ?
