Philthy Thinking I might be keeping my Volvo 244 and fixing suspension. Been looking at this and other forums but can't seem to find an answer. Someone over here has some King springs, Koni shocks and IPD sway bars for sale. Are they worth the effort or am I better off staying standard. Might also pull the Volvo engine and drop in a 5.0 Ford that I have idling in the shed. Thanks.
That'll be a big handling improvement over standard springs and shocks, even if your original components are in good order.
Very roughly, the King Springs are approx 30% firmer in rate than your originals and the adjustable rebound (assuming we're talking about Koni Sport adjustables) will be useful to fine-tune ride quality and also allow you to adjust things as they wear.
In a road car, the bigger 25mm IPD bars will a lot nicer, especially on long sweeping corners and the odd 'on-ramp challenge'. :)
The King springs front springs (165lbs) won't be heavy enough in rate for an iron-block Ford V8 though, so you'll be considering something else should you go that way.
Whether going down this path is the right one for you might depend on what you do with the car too.
As an FYI, Kings have discontinued their 240 lowered springs. Any stock that anyone may have will be the last as they will not be able to reorder. Kings have no more of their own stock of these (lowered, for both 240 sedan and wagon) there and we bought the last pairs that the Victorian distributors had to fulfill some orders.
We've already had some other 240 wagon lowered rear springs made up as the Kings lowered wagon rear springs have been unavailable for a while and stock of those ran out before the sedan lowered springs. We've had a few niggles with lead time on those that we're working to improve, but the springs themselves are very good.
