Ok, I’m looking at 17” for 240 sedan.

16” would clear brake upgrade, but 17” better choice of tyre.

looking 17x7. +15... front

17x8 +0.... rear..

have these been fitted before?

if so what tyre size would fit and I don’t want to roll guards ..

any pics or info would be appreciated ??

will be lowered approx 30mm from standard..

You'll probably need to trim the lip on the rear guards.

Probably only 205 or 215 tyres if you're insistent on not folding up the fender lips

Trimming guard lip, sounds as bad as rolling lip, mmm maybe I will have to roll lips. If I do roll lips, will 8" fit with 235/45 on rear and 215/45 on front? Thanks

I would put 225 tyres on an 8” wheel

that would reduce the amount you have to bend

Yes. I've had between 7.5 and 10 inch wide wheels in the back of a 240 but not gone over a 235/45/17. Guards are trimmed back to the welds. If you're going lower an adjustable or "adjusted" panhard is a must.

240s have a wide lip on the wheel arches that is particularly thick (three layers of sheet metal, IIRC).

So not only does it intrude into the wheel wells more than most, it is far less willing to 'conform' to the tyres' needs than most.

Cut it and fold the remaining lip back. If you don't cut it, then there's a lot of thick sheet metal to fold back.

One of my old GTs had 17x9s on the rear, with cut & folded lips. I managed to make the scrubbing minimal by dropping the tyre size by 10mm (sorry, can't recall if I dropped from 235s or to 235s), and carefully machining the wheel spacers to get each tyre centered in the wheel well. There MIGHT be a thread on the car in Member Rides from several years ago.

The small amount of scrubbing still annoyed me.

Thanks guys, yes the rear lip is thick.. I might roll lips..

I think by measuring that 7”-215/45

    8”-235/45

looks as though these will fit.. or I could just have 7” all round.. ???

As others have said... roll the lips. I rolled mine with a BFH and you can't tell. Beats slicing your new tyres.

Before I buy 8” for rear, want to make sure they will fit or I’ll just go 7” all around...

ive read some have fit 9” with abit of massaging...

and yes- tyre preservation is important??

You need to make some measurements using the wheel offset, wheel width and tyre widths

Measure how much available room there is in the wheel area, and use the disc rotor to wheel mating surface as reference for wheel offset (offset is important and you need to know the number because that will dictate how much room you have left on the inside and outside)

Get a wheel shop to help if you need

I'm running 8" or wider on both my 240s but it's all about the wheel offset. I enjoy getting wider wheels to fit but not everyone loves this approach.

Do you have the stock front coilovers? With that big ole spring perch? If your wheels are 8" +0 offset then the rears you will have to worry about the tyre clearance to the outer guard (hopefully you have an adjustable panhard as others have said). At the front you might have issues on both sides depending on how tall your tyre is. I haven't run the stock springs in a long time so can't remember the space there.

I've also had front brake caliper clearance issues on some wheels. Having to use spacers isn't ideal for that either.

17x8 +0 offset with cut rear lips, adjustable pan hard bar, very low ride height with scrubbing only on large bumps

Front only fit because I had coilovers (for the width of the rim) and neg camber (to fit in the guards)

    225/45R17

    Love the rears.. sit perfect..
