Hi Guys,
New member here on the forums, and my MY19 XC60 D4 is my first Volvo.
I’ve recently took my car for it’s 30,000km/24months service at Volvo Service Centre at Leichardt / Five Dock in Sydney. To my surprise, I was advised my rear brake pads needs to be replaced within the next 3000km. The replacement for the rear pads I was quoted $350. Otherwise should you wear out your pads, it might damage your brake rotors which will cost upwards of $1000 (approx. $800 for the rotors) to replace the whole unit. I also note that the Service Centre, stated that my front pads have approximately 8K left.
Feeling a little skeptical from the advice, I did a bit of research myself and I understand that the Volvo brake pads wears quickly. 30,000km rear pad use is standard for this car.
Seeking a second quote, I contacted Precision Automotive at Rosebery for a quote on the pads. They recommended to replace the rotors along with the pads, stating that the rotors usually go 6 months after you replacement the pads due to the machining. They did quote the whole unit at $650 which is significantly cheaper than $1000+.
Just seeking some advice for the above situation? Or any recommendations of places to get this done? I don’t want to replace the pads, if this just means I’ll have to replace the rotors in 6 months time.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
