Hi there!!
I am advancing in my 850R project and now reached the crankshaft. The engine had that typical rod bearing knock before I removed the engine. 3 rod bearings have spun but I want to replace them all and maybe (after inspection) the main bearings also.
So knowing there are colour codes on the rod bearings for a perfect fit, I talked to Volvo. Turns out the wanted for the rod bearings and the main bearing 3250 AUD...? Well to be honest....that is slightly over my budget.
So I had a look at FCP and other part dealers. Makes me wonder how FCP got the right size for my bearing. They do not mention any colour code just the car model and thats enough for them. Since my rod bearings have spun I want to clean the bearings journal surfaces up and polish them and then measure them. I ve got the Hayes Repair manual and I hope I find the measurements in there.
So I ve got a Volvo part number on the rod bearings (3531614) and then other numbers (01-96 probably January 1996) and then underneath 7246 (dont know what that is)
So how can I make sure if I order the FCP rod bearings that they will fit??
I will inspect the main bearings first and then I will see if I can still use them.
Also I thought about using plastic gage after installing the new rod bearings to see if the clearance is ok (especially after I worked on the crankshaft journal surfaces).
Any specialist in here who can point me in the right direction regarding where to buy the rod bearings??
