Landcruiser 100 series v8 sahara

So after years of nagging from my wife who worked at toyota and after the disastrous jeep wranger ( wheel snapped of on freeway) and needing a 4x4 for camping trips i tracked down a 2005 100 series landcruiser sahara.

Now after my years of resistance ive seen the light. This car is amazing and the only downside is the fuel consumption which i knew about so no great surprise.

It has great power and is so smooth to drive especially with the adjustable suspention and seats 8 with ease and is ridiculously easy to drive off road.

Prices always seemed inflated but now i understand how much car you get for your money. Still on the look out for a 240 wagon for a toy but this landcruiser certainly shits all over the now departed xc90.

Having recently driven a manual petrol 105 and a manual td 100 series and my xc90v8 and my xc90d5

The xc90v8 shits over the yodas for anything on road including towing up to 2.5 tons

Over 2.5tons has to be the land cruisers but then your getting stupid slow every time you find a hill

Mild off roading the d5 xc90 does just as well as the 100 series if not better from being smaller and much lighter and having zero care factor because the paint and body are already ruined

On sand the v8 xc90 running 17s destroyed everything from a combination of power and weight and traction (was running 12psi on the kumhos) [dtsc disabled]

Fuel economy wise the d5 is just stupid good

The v8 xc90 did better than the td 100 by a small margin and the petrol 105 was horrid but ran fine on the worst e10 cambletown had to offer

I keep looking at 100 series and 200 series and thinking... I would rather have a Nissan titan or dodge ram for same money....

Glad to see you've explored and found the xc90 sweet spot in sand. 17s essential with 12psi or less. Awd seems made for it.

@Philia_Bear the xc90 unfortunately would not have the ground clearance for places like fraser island and water crossing but was fine just for the beach. The cruiser v8 is great for towing my food van and doesn't even slow on hills although i cant comment on the td or 105 manual. As an all rounder for serious off road, 8 seats, luxury and towing it ticks all the boxes and the trim and build quality are faultless.

My D5 has been to cape York and back, it does fine on water crossings as long as not deeper than about 1M

The D5 rescued a total of 13 other vehicles while on the trip, that said, if doing serious offroading I'm just taking the XJ jeep :-)

Like i get that a late model v8 100 series is awesome... but just OMFG the cost...

if you have not already done it, I highly recommend the aftermarket upgraded sub tank, you can go up to 180L for a combined 270+ L of fuel capacity which offsets the utes drinking habits
