HI All,

I have just been told that my XC90 has done a head, they have suggested a replacement engine, i'm after anyone that may be selling one. I'm located in Cooma NSW.

The 3.2 has a complicated accessory drive from the back of the head called the R.E.A.D so you need specialist tools to remove the head and set this and the front timing chains back up. The labour alone plus the cost of the tools would outweigh the cost of a 2nd hand motor

Thanks TIm, so i should be on the lookout for a secondhand motor then, bugger.

Thank you for your help

Has it been overheating? I'm assuming the did a carbon monoxide test on the car?

Not that i could tell, although we had to replace the radiator about 2 months back as it was leaking, so we did that, then the radiator bottle as it had a leak discovered once the radiator was replaced. We then replaced the thermostat thinking that may have been an issue (the old one fell apart when removed) but apparently it's still no good.

I'm about to head down to the mechanic and have a chat with them about what's happening.

Not sure on the test sorry @timbo

If engine required we have one at Masons prestige in melbourne if stuck, first why do think the head at fault?

Hi @VolvoDeger

We replaced the radiator, the coolant bottle and also the thermostat.

The pressure builds up in the coolant bottle to the point that if the lid is removed it spurts out.

The car also overheats rather quickly and when you turn the heater on, we get no heat...

What are your toughts?

heater has nothing to do with cooling system as this is constantly circulating, but saying this what are the top and bottom hoses temp they should be the same?

It sounds like water pump not working and you will always get coolant spilling out the bottle with cap off, also are the cooling fans kicking in?

Lets not jump at a engine.................................................

    Hi,

yes the fans are still spinning, one of them spins for a long time after you turn the car off too, even if it only runs for 5 minutes or so.

not sure on the temp of the hoses, do you mean the hoses out of the coolant bottle?
