Admin - please delete as seller has decided to retain these wheels/tyres.

Not mine but a guy in Wangaratta contacted me with a set of 4 Draco wheels with new Michelin tyres. He’s asking $600 (seems a bit steep to me, but not sure how much the tyres are worth). If anyone is interested, PM me and I’ll send you his phone number. Located in Wangaratta so it might be a bit of a stretch unless somebody local to that area is interested. I’ll have a look if they’re not sold next time I am up that way visiting the “mother-in-law”.

Driving on old tyres can be risky. I haven’t heard about any specific time limit for rego/RWC/insurance. Any facts relating to such would be handy to see. For those of us who have a number of cars on club plates that only get driven several times a year, tyres can become old with still 100% tread remaining...fortunately if you have a number of RWD Volvos you can (mostly) move wheels/tyres around from car to car to best utilise the tyres...but you still can get caught out with old tyres that look like new. For example I have some black ipd RWD Pegasus replica wheels (17-inch) with what look to be “new” Pirelli tyres...but thinking back I bought those tyres on a set of “new” take-off C30 wheels back in 2010, and they had been taken off a 2007 C30 when it was new, so OOPS - they’re 13 years old now.

My RWC guy wont pass anything thats 7 years or older.

Facts are that as tyres age, the oils in them dry up and they gradually loose their mechanical grip with the road.

Tread is one thing, but the rubber needs to be good too which a lot of people just dont seem to understand.

Not to mention they are subject to dry rot and cracking - sometimes you can't see the cracks until it's too late and you have a catastrophic failure of the sidewall etc. I had the sidewall blow out on a tyre on my ES once...can't recall how old it was, and fortunately it was on the rear and happened just as we were pulling into a rest stop so we were decelerating already...when BANG! Tyres looked fine from the outside but on closer inspection the inside sidewalls were cracked and that's where it blew out.

I know a guy who prides himself in driving around with tyres that have visible cracks in the sidewalls, as if its a badge of honor to use tryes like this.

Thats because he lives in Tassie, and there is no manditory roadies. Even if the government says no manditory yearly full inspections, tyres and brakes should be checked

Brakes and tyres. They will save your life in an emergency braking situation. So i dont much with old tryes.
