940 & 960 940 vs 960 parts swapping.
Plan is to build a B6304 powered 9xx rally car. I have been working on the assumption that the only real mechanical differences between the bodyshells are:
a) the 960’s IRS (vs the 940’s live axle);
b) the 960’s wishbone front suspension (vs the 940’s control arm and castor rod);
c) the different wheel offset (960 = +46, 940 = +25).
However, a bit of fiddling yesterday has presented a few questions:
- Does a B6304 from a 960 bolt straight into a 940 body shell? More worried about firewall clearance, etc.
- Does the 940 steering column bolt into a 960 body shell?
- Is the steering rack the same between the two cars?
Being a rally car, stuff like heater hoses and ABS modules are not an issue.
The starting point cars are a 91 940 or a 96 960.
