The fog lights on all the 360 GLT, 240 Volvo's I have owned only operate with the parking lights/day running lights on. As soon as high/low beam is turned on the fog lights turn off as per the Australian Design Rules which were in force during the 1970/80s. I don't know if the rules have been changed, I suspect not. I was pulled over by the cops last year and one of the things they checked checked was how the fog lights operated. Since the fog lights only operated with the day/park lights and the wipers, horn and all lights worked I got the "on your way driver" I assume tha fog lights operated within the rules or I would have been booked for an unroadworthy vehicle.
But my next door neighbour was booked the same day same place for having fog lights/150w driving lights on during the day. He was told to use 55w globes on low beam and in the driving lights. He was booked for an unroadworthy vehicle, there were a few other things wrong with his WRX as well.
So, I don't know how the oncoming SUV drivers get away with all their dazzling lights blazing at night on the freeways, supposedly on dipped beam. I suspect the laws are disregarded regarding headlight alignment/aim as the "system" is swamped by SUV/utes etc.
