Hi lads, I'm in need of a rear window (tailgate windscreen) for a 1990 and later 240 wagon in NSW preferably

Is the glass on these different between early models and the 1989+ update? How about the tailgate itself?

Could one update their older tailgate to look newer with just a new rubber moulding?

As @ramrod said, the glass AND the tailgate are different for 1990-93. If you look at the screen shot below, you can see the tailgate outer panel was revised to accommodate the larger glass and different glass mounting method. If you were to try and fit the later glass to an earlier tailgate, it wouldn't have a recessed mounting area so it would look odd. I have seen people fit the earlier glass and rubber seal to a later tailgate, so that can be done, but it also looks odd as there's an extra ridge visible around the glass where the larger glass would sit. You can fit a complete later tailgate to an earlier car, but the later tailgate had the wiper glass spray nozzle in the tailgate at the top, whereas the earlier cars had the spray nozzle in the RH side body pillar. So you'd have an extra hole to deal with that would need to be plugged.

In Melbourne, so not too far - what colour is it out of interest?

I have a gold one and a burgundy one. Would want probably $250 for it as they're getting fairly hard to come by. I was saving the gold one as a spare for my gold wagon...but it's taking up space.

as rare as these parts are getting now (really rare)

I wasn’t able to find a window myself, and I wasn’t going to get one shipped over from Europe, so my only option was going to be to hunt for a complete tailgate, which I couldn’t find. Personally, I reckon you’re too cheap on the tailgates, if someone gets rear-ended and or needs a window, they won’t be able to easily find one so it will be a sellers market for those that have spares.

I believe you should be asking double that (for the 1990-1993 tailgate) because they’re basically unobtanium, but it’s your choice, that’s my 2c

I'll take the burgundy one off your hands, by the time I've repaired the rust around the hinges on my white 87 one I may as well paint and bolt a newer style one on!
