  • Connectors ?? under gear shift plate

Firstly g'day

I'm new to Volvo but always admired the cars so finally couldn't resist this 2003 XC90 and already love her !! : ) ok she's got a few problems ( GM " Maintenance free gearbox one of them " ) and no doubt she will have a few more but I want the relationship to work so I'm going to put in the hard yards : )

So first issue is I pulled up and off the gear knob to replace the manky gaiter and as I did this I " think " i pulled two wires off their connections. There is two sets of two wires wrapped in black sheathing. One set goes to a grey connector between the cup holder and gear shift housing and they are intact but the other two " one green and one black" still in the black sheath have no home ? i'm not sure if I disconnected them ? or they are for added extra's/additions later ? Now since doing this and also removing the gear knob I have a message " Gear selector reduced function"

Any help would be appreciated, Andrew

I don't own an xc90 and have never had experience with this problem, though from looking at it, it looks like those wires would go to the shift lock actuator(?).

I can't find an image of its location, but this blurry image is of an 01 v70 and will give you an idea of what I mean. It should have two terminals and looks like your spade connectors would connect right up.

Here's a better pic - looks like the same wires. Yours appears to have a cover over it. You may need to take that off or look in that area for a place to reconnect.

Thank you very much. Yes that's it , now to get the centre console off to put them back on : )
