morch_66479 Hi, The alternator on my Volvo 240 looks to be out of line and also the adjuster sits extremely close to the fan pulley. It's actually chewing through the adjusting screw of the alternator. Why is this? Is this alternator meant for a different model and i should be running a smaller one? Here's a clip to help explain: Thanks, Marty
dmc Look at the angle of the belt coming off the water pump pulley. Something is out of alignment, likely the lower mount the alternator sits in.
morch_66479 Yeah I noticed that. Maybe it should be mounted more to the rear to align the belts and also get that adjusting screw away from the pulley ?
DCW242 Looks like the rubber mounts are worn, causing it to sit out of alignment. The adjuster being too close to the water pump pulley is probably from the belts being too short, I think the correct size is 10X920.
morch_66479 All rubber mounts are worn so I need new ones. Is this mounted correctly? Are the bushes in the correct locations? Also it all looks to be out of line, if i fit new bushes, tighten everything up and replace the alternator adjusting bolt it should be ok.

All mounts are worn :/ The belts seem to be correct from my research. I'm running DAYCO Top Cog - 11A0925 belts and that's what's recommended. If I install new bushes and tighten everything back to where it should be it will bring the alternator into alignment and the adjuster screw should clear the pulley. Will update as I go :)
dmc The bushes push from the inside of the lower mount to the outside. There should be a shoulder on the inside edges. These are the parts numbers you need, Volvo and Skandix.

Is one of them part numbers for the top bush to hold the adjuster arm on up top?
dmc All three bushes are the same. Also the power steering and A/C compressor too. There should be 9 bushes in a 240. Yours looks like it just wore through, they do that. The one for the adjuster feels wrong when you install it, it just sits there and the adjuster can fall off. It is correct, though feels wrong. Remember the earth wire from the alternator to the top bolt of the mount too, if you take it off. It will be blue. Without that there is nothing for the alternator to connect to the ground, as it is rubber insulated, and it will not charge anything. You will want to fix it, left like that the front bearing in the alternator will be worn out, and that starts getting expensive. Seems you are onto it though.
morch_66479 Got this all sorted thanks to Angus. Everything is aligned and no rubbing. Thanks for the help again guys :)
