robust discussion on RNC whiteblock swaps and why you simply wouldn't bother with an N/A swap

  • Shortened b6304 pan...
    Homer mounts
EMS stuff as the same done to the 122
    Aw30-40 trans with paddle shift

I could do it in 2 weekends with not much effort
I think you need to add i was in an s80 with three wheels getting pulled backwards and was told to "hold on shit is about to get real".

    Lol i doubt that

    Sigh
    So much hate and envy
  • No hate and envy but your the one suggesting you could do something I've spent considerable time and effort on in 2 weekends with not much effort?
Your dreaming... where's the rest of your finished projects if everything is so easy for you

I just said working not pretty
The amazon is a thing of beauty
However it could have been done months ago with far less attention to detail and far less bling if you so had desired knowing your skill level

An na white block into 240 has got to be one of the best documented swaps and one I have done 4 times already... experience makes it easy to do it dirty and quickly to just have something that runs and drives

It also helps that i have all the parts here and on hand because i have 2 further white block swaps planned when i finish dealing with the dam effing house

The rest of the projects are at the house
Come up here and visit one day and see them
  • Maybe your just not familiar with the differences with the RNC whiteblocks but maybe link some of the swaps that actually use a C30/S40 engine in a 240. Homer mounts are useless, oil filter housing needs to be deleted. Custom alternator mount/tensioner as you won't be using the A/C compressor . Intake and exhaust manifolds are useless for rwd. Returnless EFI system needs to be replicated in the 240.

    Fully aware of differences
Homer mounts give you mount points in the correct place in the engine bay for some migged steel plate mounts off the rn block are not that hard for anyone who has ever done custom fabrication before
I have a complete b6304 mockup setup that I always toss in first
This gives a reference point of center for the crank
Then you just align that with the new block and tac it together
It's more time taking engine/trans in and out than anything else

The na exhaust manifold can be used with some modification, much like using the 850 na manifold, it's not that hard to modify it in an ugly way to have something that works pretty well
Previously I just used the na flange and a cheap b230 tube header and added an extra tube after heating up and bending the other 4 to weld onto the flange

Return less efi is easily done by transplanting the p1 pump or most any modern pump into the 240 tank as a single pump setup using the rn motor ECU setup to drive it ... this is the easiest part of the entire thing... you just don't use the return piping at all...
Otherwise... if you go to aftermarket EMS... you can remove the fps and drill and tap for a return line and have a returned system

On the alt... previously just used a nose extension on the alt to push it out to be even with the crank pully
The only reason the factory design is stupid is lack of room on a p1 engine bay... a non issue on the 240
I'm pretty sure I used a funky BMW tensioner on the alt belt that I found in the local pnp

    On the oil filter
I had something water cut as a flange and welded on some an fittings, the hardest thing was the bit of CNC milling I did on a manual mill for the oring like gaskets
Still... not much effort because I had a spare assembly and could work through this...

    Intake
Possibly the most expensive bit... I got a puma manifold and cut off both ends and reversed because it seamed less effort than making something else fit
The uglier alternative is using parts from a b6304 setup including the squid which will bolt on... badly... with a runner cut and shut and longer bits of rubber coupler to deal with the slight spacing issues
    Ugly but works

The most pita bit is still modifying the b6304 pan... and or modifying the factory pan... that's like an entire day on it's own

So yes... there is a pile of prep work you need to do ahead of time... but actual time fitting is still not that much effort

Like I said... quick and ugly but working...
The last conversion I did was in 2007 before I came to Australia I'd have to dig for some pictures
  • Apologies @ToomanyVolvos for cluttering your thread

Seeing as @Philia_Bear is obviously not talking about a RNC whiteblock as you can't cut and shut a plastic manifold that has integral MAF and map housing
maybe mods could split mine and @Philia_Bear discussion into a new thread titled robust discussion on RNC whiteblock swaps and why you simply wouldn't bother with an N/A swap

Which part of alloy puma manifold did you miss in my previous post?

Also... the t5 manifold setup has the intake at the correct end anyways

    Why would you do it...
The 2.4i motor with a tune and cams is stupid stupid fun in something like a 1200kg Volvo 240 while not having turbo complications
It's the same reason you see a 10v 850 motor in a bug
