Hi, as I understand my 1987 240GL is eligible for historical plates, mainly to save on registration fees etc. Just wondering if being a member of the forums constitutes an 'automotive club' or if there is an actual membership I should be a part of in order to apply in the ACT?

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks my dudes!
Has to be an actual formally registered A.C.T club . We've been considering setting one up or trying to find an established club that we could join.
There has been brief discussion about it on the
Canberra swedish vehicle enthusiast Facebook group
If the rules change in line with the NSW scheme it would be great too
Cheers Tim, that would be very great haha. Know of any that may be applicable? Or is there not much at this time?
It's all about who you know with the club's, as with most car clubs there's a bit of politics involved. They will also all have their own definition of what modifications they will accept and will be flexible for some people/cars and tough on others.
As for Canberra Swedish Vehicle Enthusiasts, the biggest issue is finding people who have time for day to day club stuff and to actually go to events. Once Xmas is done, I’ll organise some more get together but generally, the turn up is hit and miss
Thanks for your help. Guess it'll be full rego for now :(

You could do what most people do in the ACT, just renew when required. When rego expires, you have 12 months to renew without the need for inspection or to surrender the plates. Rego choices of 3, 6 or 12 months
REACT were realistic about minor mods with historic rego.
“Mainly to save on rego” is the exact wrong attitude about it too, no club is going to sign their name on that otherwise every VN from here to Darwin would be on H plates
We thought about putting the 1978 Land Cruiser on Club/Historic rego here in NSW, but decided against it because we actually use it too much - it gets used at least 2 or 3 times a week, and is just to useful to be restricted to the 60 days that the permit scheme in NSW allows.

Wino rocking the old man attitudes of 1995.
It’s just the way to current historic rego scheme is set up. I don’t see the point of it, what’s the point of owning a cool car if you can never drive it
I agree with @Wino The A.C.T scheme is far too limiting in its current scope

I thought you could drive up to 30kms from its registered address for 'testing and maintenance' purposes. Is this true? If it is, that would cover most of Canberra, If not all.
