So I regased my aircon and it was cold 8’c at the vents! Then a couple weeks later I started getting a clicking noise from the center front console / dash. Now it’s just blowing hot air.

Sounded like a relay switch to me?
Any help out there?
Year and AC switch type?
Could be a whole multitude of things.

Does it have the simple on - off style switch, or the knob?
1979, aircon has a graduating knob.
and fan has 3 settings.

79?
Was it a recentish retrofit? or is it all pretty original?
Its got a sticker on it saying serviced by an old a/c company. It’s got a York compressor that looks newer perhaps, dunno if that is original or retrofit?
The car was sitting for a year and I just had to buy a new belt and regas it to get the ac going.
Only 75000km on the clock.

Simplest thing is to take it back, check if it hasnt all leaked out, then dig further.

There's a number of things you can do to verify if the electronics are playing nice, but that depends on how involved you want to get.

If its all original, id say it's leaked out from one of a multitude of different possible places, if its a dud relay or fuse then you should have no problem getting back up and running in short time
I Just finished replacing the heater fan in my 79 244DL. I can confirm there is a relay for the AC - it sits on the RH side of the centre console clipped to the metal upright - a black relay with the connector pointing upwards. You could bypass the relay as I believe the main function is to prevent the A/C compressor from kicking in until 10 seconds after power is applied, to aid in ease of starting the engine. Try applying a 12V signal directly to the A/C compressor clutch wire and see if it engages.
Nice work, I read that's a big job.
You description sounds like where the clicking noise was coming from before fail.
Any suggestions, If I wanted a replacement relay where I could go?

I might have a good used one or you could try any of the usual Volvo parts places in AUS or overseas. If it were me I would probably bypass it as the only function it serves is to delay the A/C coming on while starting the car. If you remember to shut it off before starting the car it should have the same effect.
Oh yeah that sounds good. I'll try the bypass.
