Auction houses have lots of good pictures and they state the issues, don't be worried about buying unseen.
As a slightly different example, we bought 2 cars sight unseen off volvo dealer, one wholesale. He even sent me a video of the lhs mirror rattle whilst driving! Gregg service. Cars both as expected, came with oil service and full tanks of fuel!
BTW, the missus has 2007 s80d5, I hate that motor, too laggy, wish we got the V8....
My T6 AWD is epic by contrast, bloody brilliant!

@Ex850R I would love to look at other options for a project but the growing need for a 7 seater means that I need to try and smash both requirements together.

Well.. mine still has a few niggles to sort! Please feel free to make an offer! :)
I'm actually quite interested in moving over to a XC or V70.

V70t6....
@iceton1975 should have one for sale soon, all sorted I expect, or hit him up if you want to do the work yourself.

yeah i like that one on CarSales... if i could get past half the $ for my 90 i'd be tempted..!
Chris
I see Jeremy who used to be active on here is selling his manual conversion XC70 on Carsales at the moment if that's your sort of thing

Bit of an odd question I guess but I have been looking at a few different XC90 D5 in the last week or so and they all seem to have a lot of cabin noise. It is very evident that there is a diesel up the front. I assume that is normal for the older ones but I was wondering if the later twin turbo D5 has the same issue. In contrast my S40 T5 is whisper quiet.

Even the S80D5 is noisy , so much so that if we had of tried it out ( bought sight unsen from ACT dealer) against the V8 we would have got the V8 and forget the fuel cost!
Early D5 lag is crap too, maybe a tune will help but wow , its lightswitch with revs needed.
Yep,sounds like a truck!

Pretty much mirrors my experience from the last week or so. Rather disappointed to be honest given the refinement of the S40. Having trouble finding a 2.5T to drive. There is a nice V8 local but too much for my blood.
Chris
V50 D5 is also noisy FWIW

What money, year and mileage on the V8?
Nelpd96
MY11 Exec 125,000km plenty of options, Bluetooth, heated seats and park assist. Asking $19k with NSW rego until June 19.

Listed on carsales.

Found a 2.5T at a dealers with an oil leak on the engine. Mid 2005 build in grey reasonable condition but they want $3150 for it, will be going to pickles for wholesale so told him I would wait till it came up at auction. I was thinking low $2k
Nelpd96
The price on the 2.5T parts car has dropped to $500 if I grab it this week..... Only has 104,000km on the motor. Is this something that I am going to regret if I grab it now just in case?
Ex850R
Only if you don't get that auction one.....
It can only go down more, nobody wants.
May be cheaper just to get a engine when and if you need one?
The dealer may well have the same price at auction as reserve.
Nelpd96
Interestingly the parts car in not on the WOVR either so could in theory be repaired and regoed.
Based on what I am hearing it will only be a matter of time before a cheap 2.5 comes up with a rooted box.
pastry
yeah buy that 2.5T! You won't see a motor with so few KM again.
Nelpd96
@pastry after having looked at a couple of others I am half tempted to have a look at yours just to see what ones is like that has been brought back to life. I will be heading back to Canberra from Sydney Wed afternoon/evening if you are going to be around I could do a detour on my way back down the highway.

You will find it still slightly rough around the edges :) Bu yeah sure mate, you're welcome to stop in. I work at home so always here, and I'm happy to share my experiences.
