Whats the go with changing an 850 from auto to manual? I understand the obvious and have done plenty of auto/manual swaps in the past, just never an 850... I guess i am looking for anything special or worth noting.

will the flywheel bolt up to the same crank? is the engine ecu different? are drive shafts the same? anything else tricky?

Perhaps I should have googled it first.. There is plenty of info around.. Now to hunt down the parts.

What year? Donor box from a cheapie from gumtree/ebay? Probably best to have a whole donor.

That is what I'm thinking. I picked up a '96 850R auto... gotta get a 5 speed.

Manual module, driveshafts, ideally a single mass flywheel, pretty much a bolt and go. Chuck an LSD in while you are there :-D

What is the go with the LSD... where to get one?

cheers

i wonder if a 93 850 5speed will do the job.

Will need a different manual tcu and I think the driveshafts will be no good. The box and flywheel should be ok. Not sure on clutch either.

Everyone who volunteered an LSD opinion on TB said "Gripper". I think a FWD would be the idea home for a torque biasing LSD (like the Quaife). Hard to know how much of the anti-Quaife vibe was about the product, and how much was their crappy way of doing business.

Mmm.. around $1750 landed.

They are pretty exxy. I know the results would be worth it, will need some time to justify it to myself.

Yeah... When the dollar was good, US$1200 would have converted to about $1250 landed. I'm suffering from sticker shock (and from committing all my spare money to the rally car).

bought one. :)

Nah, haven't bought an LSD yet, but i have bought the donor for the 5 speed conversion.. . Just need to buy a decent clutch.

Is it just me or are 'R' spec clutches particularly expensive.
