Looking forward to reading this thread and getting some pointers.
I know I had the xc drift on gravel roads, never had over steer or under steer, Just point the nose and the rest of the car has followed, found the same on wet roads and roundabouts.
Always found the car to be sure footed in the wet and on the loose stuff.
As I have said in the past it's probably been the most versatile and reliable car I have owned and I hope it keeps on going for many years to come, manulising would be the ultimate goal for me with a touch more power.

I'M BACK!!!

I don't know where I go sometimes. Life gets busy and I loose my Volvo mojo.

Engine is ready to pop out Saturday morning. Then it's make a list of parts, order, scrub the hell out of things, slap it back together and enjoy some heated seat luxury driving.

I'm tempted to put a bigger turbo on it with my Scomo money, a tune and nice exhaust. Suggestions on a good combo for these things?

Standard recipe for these lpt engines is a 17psi tune 16t turbo, white injectors, later model exhaust manifold and angle turbo housing +3" downpipe and exhaust = about 250whp. I could be tempted to wreck my xc70 and sell these parts

Good to see it back, I know the feeling, my xc is mechanical sound BUT the dash has to come out, (looks like 2-3 mounts have snapped) pass door check strap has just popped its welds, driver's strut has blown a seal, one of the window switches has failed, battery has just shatt its self along with a few other things and I just can't be bothered. Hopefully you are going to motivate me, PLEASE

Time for a P3 xc70 Gav,you will love it I guarantee it.

Even a 3.2. A mate bought the ex BMG staff one with over 300K on it and it's a ripper.

@Ex850R to be honest it has been on our minds, but we are waiting for it to break..... Which won't happen!

On Saturday 13th the engine and transmission were removed. @gavinh ..some motivation for you..

At this point it was time to down the tools and undergo a deep de-bogan cleansing by cutting the grass and cleaning things up.

Next step is some de-greasing and a detailed parts list.

It appears my usual way of posting links to images isn't working. Dunno how to solve that. Had enough of IT challenges for one day.

@bigal I see the 145 is in the shed. How's it going?

Easier than I thought. I paid a certified toyota master mechanic friend to come n help push things along :-) Things went at a very fast rate from there on.

Grass and weeds have no problems growing here anytime apart from summer.

145 is nice and dry in the shed. It's not user friendly with a screeching power zapping bw35 so have shelved it until it gets converted to manual which will be the only major mod I will do.

Great work there, relatively easy to work on too, currently back in Scotland but the dash will be coming out when I'm back along with welding the pass door check strap.

That is a pretty grubby looking donk.

Surprised you didn't remove a bit more of the front end for access, but looks like detaching the gearbox was the key.

Also amazed at how far the bonnet opens, that's a bit of luck!

It lifted out with trans attached. We just removed the trans straight away. Pretty good for room at the front.

The only slightly tricky bit was getting the angle gear flange to not hook the exhaust on the lift out.
