I am going to have my own "money for ilness expenses for drugs , an auction on ebay for my old pair of Dunlop volley's , the last of the real Dunlop ones not the shit Volley Internationals they have become. Complete with wear hole and a bit ratty , perfect for street cred,newly washed and with new genuine insoles they should go like hotcakes.

+1 for cruise on a long trip - especially with modern, powerful cars that easily cruise at 140km/h. No panicking when you see the patrol car behind the tree...

However, in the cars back in the UK (2014 XC70 and V40) they both have the adaptive cruise control... now that is cool... set at the speed you like, the distance you want (I go for 3 bars) and off you go... even got my parents using it now; prior to about 2013MY cars they never used the cruise control, but as we drove them a fair bit whilst we back there they realised how much better it was (I think when we brought a V40 D3 back showing an average of 58mpg or so they were convinced; Dad hadn't done any better than 48mpg or so) especially given that they both squeeze the accelerator on and off a tiny amount so the passengers get motion sickness.... god knows how the dogs travel with them...

I'm in the process of "delicate" negotiations about how we get down to my brother's wedding in Melb in December; I'm up for driving down and back (only 2,600km round trip...) but Delz is campaigning for flights... but we've not done any of that route and she's just been looking over my shoulder... and left with a stern "NO"... I'll keep trying... I want to rock up to my brothers (inevitably) very smart wedding in a tatty 4x4 with swags and everything....

@PaddlerEd, the flights around xmoz are killer cost wise even if you book ahead.
Another bargaining chip. The journey you take makes the trip more memorable....
Using a fuel efficient car like yours is way better for the environment than a big dirty jet...
You can sleep in back of the car, accommodation here will be expensive at xmoz.Factor in either renting a car here or paying $80 to get to Western Suburbs or $180 to Eastern in peak times maybe more.
Let her fly and you drive,picking up Swedish back packers for a ride could be fun?
