I have found this unicorn and am not sure what it is worth nor if it is worth buying having never seen one before, so I thought I would ask the forum about this C70 rag top, yes its a bit stone chippy on the bonnet which gives it a bush ranger look to my eye and yes, I do wonder about the L and P plate holder on a turbo charged car, thing is that it's only got 176,500 ks, half good tyres, June 2019 rego, at first glance it seems like its worth saving. On the down side, its ABS and SRS light are on and the yellow gaffer tape needs replacing with something plastic made by volvo

Bottom Line, I am 57 and might be a little bit too old to fully enjoy this thing.

Anyways, I would love some feedback as to what this unicorn is worth.

I would avoid it. Probably needs $$$$ spent on worn out front suspension, auto transmission on these can be troublesome, electronic throttle body failure is common.
For a C70 to qualify for unicorn status it would need to be a manual hardtop high pressure turbo model.
$1000 would be too much to pay if it's being auctioned presumably to avoid having to offer any warranty

Thanks guys, so basically, what you are saying is that this is "at best" a rhinoceros with brittle ankles that only looks like a unicorn from certain angles to old short sighted people. ;O)

Don't ya just hate how the closer one looks at the "horn" aspects of an endangered species like this old Rhino, the more one thinks about sunny days, beaches and sea gulls, the more one looks the more one starts to see it's long term collectableness, the more one delves into the wiki of the first generation C70 Rag Top - the only Rag Top that Volvo ever made pointed out wiki rather pointedly, wiki also said that Tom Walkinshaw designed it's suspension so maybe it's ankles aren't so brittle or maybe they are, unsprung weight ratios as they relate to handling are always going to be a compromise between strength and weight, wiki rambled on about the now closed factories of Uddevalle on the picturesque edge of a bay in the south-eastern part of Skagerrak, yet failed to mention that since the beaches of Uddevalla have always been filled with seashells and Uddevalla has one of the largest shell-banks in the world, thus helping the robots put C70's together was a much sought after job back in the day, the sea shell market having passed its peak not long after Caesar minted his first coin.

Is a NSW car so can't be that bad having had annual RWC done.

Does need a few things ( mine needs new visors too) but not that bad overall.

When sorted they are valued in the teens so you can afford to spend some on it to bring it back up to top condition

We are doing one as a project and enjoying the process too.

I also have an immaculate Coupe which is very rewarding. Got the Convertible as I liked the idea and as like this one it mostly needed a lot of cosmetic work. I would go for it so long as price was below 2K

My Coupe is insured for $18K and convertible for 6.

Immaculate ones with proven history/work are more valuable and going up.

But this car of course needs a lot of work to get to that point.

Insurance value is no indication of anything but the insurer wanting to get more premiums out of peeps.
My 13k car can be insured for 28k....

There is no way you could readily replace either of my cars for what they are insured for, especially the coupe... Like for like. But of course in a "fire sale" situation then it is worth less...

It is a compromise on what you would have to pay to replace it.

They certainly weren't pushing me for higher premium.
I pushed them with the value using the argument that you could not readily replace my car if lost
