Introducing my T5, a bit unloved in the past by a couple of owners. I needed an upgrade from my warm hatch and this came up at a price that was acceptable...
First jobs are just beginning with drivers door holder thingo replaced, Cambelt + Waterpump, Radiator, new coolant & intercooler hoses, PCV replacement and general service/tidy...
Over the next few months suspension and interior love will occur.
Rob
Nice. these certainly seem to be the flavour here. Auto I presume?
crosspug
Unfortunately an Auto, but for the intended purpose I'm not massively unhappy. My daily is a 31yr old italian motorcycle so this is more a plaything with space for the family when the Mitsubushi Outlander is boring me to death!
Now also realised that all 4 wheels have different brands of tires.... ugh. :-w
Ex850R
Jono , check Gumtree for Michelin tyres , i find the Honda fanboys put new Michelin pilot Sport 3s on the rims and then sell them..:-O ..They are correct size for our 16" wheels so cheap new tyres then either sell rims or get scrap aluminium value.

Looks like a great starting point - Much neater than ours.
Nice!

Ha, thanks the photos hide a lot..... A LOT... Bonnet needs respray, and interesting dent in the right rear door from being opened wayyyy to far and patchy roof/bumpers.
A lot of bruises for 166k kms.
But all good fun. First lot of service items here today. Fudge me the replacement radiator is light! Anyway that and pcv will be long weekend work over Easter even if the new coolant hoses aren't here yet... Maybe cambelt and serpentine as well depending on many things.
Now I'm off to gumtree...... ;) Anybody used kumho ku31's?
Ex850R
Re002 Potenza or Michelin PS3s if you can, they are amazing. The 002s fade when worn down a bit but still good. Someone here has Ku31s.
One to check are Ovation in 16" I can get em for $105 and they were top rated by Choice as.a 16" sport tyre,Gt Radials came close.too, over the better know brand's.
Ex850R
Don't forget the thermostat and temperature sender. And the little coolant line behind the head. New oil cap seals, you can get viton ones from FCP I think. Oil dipstick and tube seal o ring too.
crosspug
Thanks for all the help guys, great to find a local resource of knowledge!
Thermostat already on the way and new oil cap obtained but no dipstick seal (are all dipstick handles broken or what?)... Pickapart wreckers supplied spare fuel cap (why not integrated into fuel door like french?), almost new dissy + rotor and non-peeling(!?) fuel rail.
Currently the car has a gsd3, falken random, firestone and Sumitomo tires...
Ex850R
I will find the scan of the Choice tyre test my Bro inlaw sent me, Ovation v388 sport tyre and Gt Radials topped the list. They didn't test against Michelin PS3s but they cost 3 times as much as the Ovation!
crosspug
That'd be great, can't say ive heard of ovation.
AshDVS
Yell if you need dipstick seals, oil caps seals, etc - we typically have them in stock.
Ex850R
@Ash do you have viton oil cap o rings?
AshDVS
In stock we have rubber type, as per oem. Though the ones we have seem to last longer than others I've seen.

Ok peeps. Some progress today...
Door strap/stop removed as welds have snapped in a pillar, will need new plate welded in. Crap.
Trim mounts on back of door cards have become unstuck so reglued them on. Lots less rattles now!
Air intake hose above rad to airbox wasn't even connected.
All intercooler pipework removed, lots of old oil in it. New silicon kit fitting began along with deep clean of pipework.
Dissy cap + rotar replaced, old well past it and had oil floating in it.
Coolant hoses out, new silicon about to go in. Old lower hose (fudging long hose that one!) is crusty as... Top was fine but anyway.
Radiator still in but did confirm the end tank crimps have let go in the current hence leak and dodgey pressure in the system. Hopefully tomorrow for that.
While I've got so much space I will do as many vac lines as possible as a few are feeling hard and brittle.
Also electrical earths and main power battery to alt will get an upgrade to 0awg or better. Might as well before the audio gets an upgrade.
And finally, top engine mount is in two pieces! At least that looks simple!
Pictures tomorrow...
Ex850R
Do the oil separator/breather while there?
There is the alternator upgrade on Mathews Volvo Site I think. Bosch alternators get lazy.
Give intercooler a clean out too?
crosspug
Oil Sep is tomorrow/monday while there is lots of room in the engine bay. I have a full Volvo kit ready to just drop in.
I'll look into the alt details some more, I expected Bosch to be somewhat good?
AshDVS
Sounds like youre making some great progress!
Its a lot more satisfying once the overdue maintenance stuff is done.
By the sound of it, ours are both in a similar state. Mine lacked maintenance too and I'm plodding through it between other work.
Ex850R
Bosch is good but the getting lazy is something the forums talk about so do the regulator?? modification. You are doing the wires, good move, also the earth to body as well I believe.
crosspug
So first there was this.... Failed crimp in the radiator
Then there was this... Slight tug on the top PCV pipe and snap! All the other pipes were the same, very brittle.
Low on boost why?? Turbo outlet to top intercooler pipe
Having to do a lot of split loom work as I go as it is all old and crumbling. Never seen it quite so bad in a car actually. Fun fun!
Anyway, half way there... Lost lots of time for other household items this weekend so hopefully between work this weekend I can get the car up and driving again in a much better nick that it was.
