If it's the U-Haul ones though, they won't. The servo guys just do not give a shit (flip side - check everything works on your trailer and that the brakes aren't too slack and check the tyre pressures).
Just saw the UHaul maintenance team at the servo here today... See them about once a month doing checks.
Oh yeah I'm not saying they're not maintained, just that the guys in the servo don't particularly care, I've never had them actually inspect a trailer before/after hire. One time I had a car carrier where the inertia brake cable was too slack and its brakes didn't come on properly. Didn't learn this until I was descending Bells Line of Road. No harm done, but now I check the cable isn't overly slack at rest before driving off, which I think is a good policy at all times. Better safe than sorry.
