C30 heating and cooling fan noisy

Hello Volvo family! I was hoping you could help. My C30 has been going well and was at a dealer today to have the software on the Bluetooth module updated. One small issue I have noticed is that when cold starting the heating/cooling fan creaks and groans slightly, then emits a soft thud. The climate control system itself works fine and Volvo have said there have been error codes. What they do believe is that the air distribution damper motor needs replacing and have quoted $1490 for the job. Is this a common issue? Is that pricing reasonable. They've said it won't affect the car's performance and the part shouldn't seize. Is this correct? Should I just keep driving it and not worry?

Yep, Graeme is a nice guy, very honest and sensibly tells you the options and will save you money. The others I mentioned above are the same. Great local volvo people.
Swedish Prestige are here too, I have no idea about them.
There is one place out towards airport I wouldn't go near again.
