After cleaning it up, it sat in mum's shed until July 2018, when I finally got it shipped down to Daylesford where we live.

WOW, what an amazing build. I’m so impressed to see someone take an old barn find, strip it to absolutely bare bones, and then build it from scratch to result in a beauty like this.

I wish I had the skills and know how to take on a job like this, but I’ll admit that I’m a tinkerer, polisher and enthusiast, not a restorer!

I doubt your wagon was built this well when new!

Now we know - you can fit 2 metre IKEA Billy bookcases in the back of a 240 wagon...as long as you don’t mind about 6 inches of “Billy” shoved up your backside for the drive home LOL! I was wishing we had brought the slushbox 91 240 wagon as my left knee complained in the Melbourne gridlock due to being jammed forward in the “pygmy iguana” seating position. Will finally have some place to display my model car collection once I get these assembled. Yay!

Yeah probably wise but then they never come apart again! :) Got one assembled and damn, the skirting board notch isn’t quite high enough. WTF? Grrr! Coffee break!

Easily solved, just redo your house with a slightly shorter skirting board

Thanks - I think that might be the best option! ;) Alternatively, we could tile the whole house to bring the floor level up about 5 mm! :)

Yeah, the prob is I have 4 separate 40 cm wide units...so a lot of feet. I think I’ll just get a white melamine board and sit them on it...may even screw the board to the bottom of all the units to join them together as one and could do same at top. Easy projects never are LOL!

Thicker underlay and new carpets would work I recon ot some 10mm glazing packers ?

Finally finished. Ended up using a piece of white melamine shelf under them to raise up about 15 mm, which allowed clearance for the baseboard trim. Ready to load up with model cars and other Volvo-related stuff.

Pretty much ready to roll to the SA Cruise. Got the “balloon” tyres put back on in place of the 17-inch tyres. I don’t like the look of these gunmetal powder-coated 15-inch ipd Virgo replica wheels, but at least it will be a more compliant ride on the outback roads and less likely to buckle a wheel. Bonus probably a fraction better fuel economy as they weigh a lot less than the 17s. My gearbox is leaking from almost every gasket/seal. Grrr! So much for my mechanical abilities.

If you come down to Newport workshop open days I'll get along with you, bloody massive site , all the old trams are stored there too!

The garden outside the main office I'd love to see as well as all the places that made steam engines for all of this state in the day (could be Australia?)

Would be great to get down to one of the open days again. We did go to one when we lived in Williamstown - probably 20 years ago!
