So today I decided to do my transmission fluid drain and fill. All went well. Testing went well and gear changes felt smoother. Time will tell if this has made a difference but will do another drain and fill in about 1 months time. Old fluid was pretty dirty.
Decided to tackle the "clunking" (axle ping?) noise. Removed the passenger side axle bolt to check which one it is (longer or shorter one) so that I can place an order. Alas! found that it had already been changed to the anti ping version with the rubber modification! Then my day turned upside down - as I was putting it back, I must have over torqued and it snapped - thought it was 50nm for these modified bolts?
Anyway, after the initial panic, managed to get the snapped piece out using a bolt extractor - found out how to do this from the interwebs. There are a few Volvo owners out there who have made the same mistake :).
So today I just have 2 queries:
- With the "anti-ping" bolts installed, will the clunking noise be eminating from elsewhere...e.g. bevel gear :(
- Since now I obviously have to purchase new bolts :( can these be sourced in Australia? I have found them in ipd and
FCP but would prefer to get them locally. Also, with the missing bolt, can I correctly assume that the car cannot be
driven?
Cheers!
