Does anyone know why I have an Australian made central locking receiver unit in a 1996 850R. Seems original. It is the one behind the glove box. Do these respond to the recoding the fob routine?
I changed my relay to the original (it had a by pass unit in it ), the immobiliser now arms. But I can not get the central locking to trigger from the fob. So it or the receiver unit are at fault.
Any suggestions to sort this out in an ordinary Volvo way.

I seem to remember my workshop investigating it too. They contacted a mob in Sydney who provided the units. For me it was the woefull signal reception and the sggestion was a wire run from unit but wouldnt be much better. Cant help otherwise but my current V70 has a ducks guts one i can lock from inside the house out to the street!! It seems to be a genuine alarm type but has no alarm?? Other x70s i have had not as good....

Function before range.
Do you know which models came with remote central locking? Base, se, T5 etc....
Also if they can be re-program to the fobs?

I think @Pom would be a knowledge base here. I remember now my unit went to Sydney to reprogram mine. That was the 850R.

How can tell if the fob or the receiver unit are at fault.
The fob has a new battery. Is there a simple test to check the fob is transmitting?
If I get a new fob I'm then not sure if the receiver will reprogram to it.
