  • 240 Headlamp replacement or conversion?

Hi,
I need to replace my left headlamp on my 1979 Volvo 244. It has the rectangle shaped lenses. I've been quoted $150 for a second hand part. But before I spend the cash, thought I would look at converting to newer lenses, halogen perhaps? Has anyone been down this road and can tell me where to buy such modification?

Here is a photo of the headlight to be replaced.

They are already halogen, but you will find reflectors are needing re chroming.
Is that a mission rechroming? If I kept this headlight, it also has a spring missing. Any idea where to find them?
Not a mission, just need a good chrome plater. Master electroplating in Melbourne are very good and the manager is a Volvo lover. You can ring berry motor group or voldat in Melbourne (or glt in Queensland) and see about getting a pair.

You can convert to single round headlights but it will cost you more to do that.
Vacuum metalising the reflectors yields better results. Go to www.hyqual.com
The difficulty of re-chroming headlights largely depends on how damaged the surface is, but I agree with @Vee_Que Master Electroplating will be able to sort you out no problem. They did the trophies for the National Meet a few years ago and managed to get a mirror finish from used pistons!

This sounds worthy of elevation to the VOLVO PARTS/SPARES DIRECTORY

After the pistons were re-inserted back into the engine, did the electroplating interfere with the performance of the engine? =)
Townsville Electro plating company has shut down and they get their work done from Melbourne. I’m gonna go $120 for second hand headlight + postage
