Bonnets.
Are early 264 and 83-85 240 bonnets the same or different to each other?
I had thought they were slightly different, making four types of bonnets.
74-82: Flat hood.
83-85: Verandah/tombstone.
86+: late type. Easily picked by the raised centre section at the back to meet the later style windscreen plenum.
Guards.
Front guards acquired side indicators (behind the wheel) in the late 80s (I think with the big update for 1986, possibly later).
Bootlids.
75-78: Flat type (same as 140/164).
79-85: Curved type.
86+: Hunchback (with ugly press-button release).
Wagon tailgates:
75-90: Small window.
91+: big window.
The handle changed on the small window ones too - somewhere around between 79 and 84, probably in 81 with the change to plastic bumpers.
Doors.
75-78: Old style striker plate.
79+: new style striker plate.
The 86+ doors have holes in them to attach the plastic lower trim pieces.
Mirrors.
75-78(?): Chrome.
79-85: plastic, horizontal type.
86+: Plastic, wing/raised type (trying to look like 940 mirrors).
The lower radiator support changed (I think) with the change from alloy bumpers to plastic.
Free to be corrected on anything I've gotten wrong.
