[solved] Auto to manual - same AMM?

My car has a 0280212016 AMM. While researching prices, I found a page that states a 0280217001 is for 1989-93, 8 valve 240s with manual transmission.

Does that mean if you change to a manual gearbox, you should also change the AMM from an 016 to a 001?

Nah you use the 016 in all applications

After stumbling on more pages, I think the different AMM is not due to having a manual gearbox, but because the engines were LH 3.1 - which I think - happened to be paired to manual gearboxes. Either way, irrelevant to me - so thanks.

Iirc Aus never got 3.1
It was mostly 1993 manual 240 in the usdm

Yeah - it was USA pages, not here. What got me on that tangent was looking for a good price on a genuine NOS Bosch AMM... I'd found a 001 and he said it was the same as an 016 - but he was the only source saying that.

You don't need to find a NOS one - just get the part number off yours, call up Repco or an auto parts shop and give it to them and chances are they can source one for you. I know someone who did that and it cost a little over $200 from memory, from Repco.

I should ask them then. I tend to forget about Repco because most of the time they're more expensive. Bursons quoted $650 or $711, and Volvo quoted $701 or $800. The difference was who 'refurbished' them.

I'm currently waiting for a reply from FCP. I figure although it costs more, if I buy an AMM from them and need to take advantage of their lifetime parts replacement later on, I'll come out even. But I need to make sure I don't get 'caught'. e.g. I asked them if I buy the cheapest type and later they stop selling it, do I miss out on a replacement because they only replace like-for-like. Then asked if I've guessed that correctly, would me buying the most expensive one give me a free lower-priced unit later if they stop selling the dearest one.
