Bugger, at least not expensive to fix.
Macks 74 144.
Tstat in backwards & jammed closed against head/housing? It can happen...
Didn't open in boiling water so not obstructed. I know what you mean though, i have made that mistake before myself.
All good, new thermostat from Super Cheap was stuffed. Fitted better new t/stat and it now just sits nicely @ around 90 degrees.
Small exhaust weld job & 4 x new boots this week (hopefully) & then out & about terrorising the good folk in Brisbane's North-side. With a possible early Sunday morning tour up to Mt Glorius.

The best stuff on the planet for this is "inter-ject engine oil flush". I used it every second oil change. I also use their injector cleaner once a year and by the end of the tank notice a difference. I was put onto it by a volvo mechanic in Victoria. Just follow the intsructions. not sure where you are,but do a google and you will find an agent.macktheknife;22973 wrote The drive of the dizzy gave insight into Engine gunge so I'll run something through it with a couple of filter changes to see if it can be cleaned up a bit.
Was thinking some high detergent Diesel oil. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks for that, I'll give it a go.....when I can bloody well get it running......
The saga of trying to get the old Solex carbs operating was a failure & I'm hoping to have a pair of new Webers ordered by the end of the month which should see this part overcome.
I've got a new Exhaust fitted from the extractors back & a set of new Federal RS 205/50/15s fitted for extra stickability. (Just what you need to lighten the steering.....yeah right)
Have also discovered a couple of suspension/steering components needing a bit of luv but nothing likely to stop forward movement. (Famous last words?)
All coming along.

Diesel 50/50 with engine oil also cleans a lot. Never heard of the other Stuff. Will need to look out for it.

Very popular in Germany apparently.Vee_Que;26383 wroteDiesel 50/50 with engine oil also cleans a lot. Never heard of the other Stuff. Will need to look out for it.
The Volvo mechanic i spoke about also had the fuel injector cleaner set-up. It would pump pure Injector liquid that you normally dilute in a full tank. MANY times people bought in cars who injectors were on the way out. Partially blocked. So he would hook up the machine, pump in the pure liquid through the injectors and 10-15 mins later, the injectors worked fine. He was known for doing it all the time and would save people heaps on replacing injectors that were blocked using the Injector cleaning fluid. My 240 was only doing 2,000 ks for years before i bought it. It ran really rough and was told i might need new injectors, well i got me some of this stuff, put in 20 liters of fuel...and by the end of the small tank, she was running really smooth, more power by 20% at least...and was getting more economy.
I put it through the old girl once every 6 months. Its not abrasive stuff either, like so many sump oil cleaners and injector cleaners. If you look at the site it explains why.

Some inspiration (taken from IPD) for your build Macka. This shot almost makes the big bumper look good! Nice looking red, Polaris and blacked out GT grille for the win!

Now THAT is nice!!
I love big bumpers, esp the 164,which are slightly bigger. Absorb way more impact also. Had a mate with a 145 and big bumpers. Got hit from behind by an idiot. bent it to where it just toughed the panel work. He changed the bumper for $40..and the crap tin car that hit him did $2,000 worth of damage. lol Im playing with idea of putting big bumpers on my next 240 wagon, but painting the metal black, like on some 242GT's.

Been a long time. Sorry for not reporting. Things have happened. Retired, moved house, had a new knee installed, (still need another).
Oh..the car you say. Well eventually got the new Webers & 123 ignition installed and a Dyno tune before driving from Brisbane to Bribie island without incident. Goes OK till around 5K revs & then completely runs out of puff. Dyno guy didn't mention anything so I'll need to look further 'cause it really should do a whole lot better with the current mods.
Anyway, since then, Knee-monia has slowed things a bit but almost mobile enough now to get it up on stands & do a full rebuild of brakes, replace a steering arm, check all bushes with a view to replace with Urethane. Also see what I can discover & fix regarding oil leaks.
Front wheel bearings need attention & I'll attack these next week.
While I'm doing the brakes, Does anyone have suggestions for reasonably simple upgrades? I see that ID parts in the US have a lot of gear including Alloy front rotors & a good range of performance pads. Anyone had any dealings or experience here?
Cheers,
Macka.
