Howdy all

Had an eye out for the rare 6spd s60r for a while until I saw on gumtree the other week and took action.

Basically replaced my run around civic with something safer and faster ;)

Bit of a risk considering its done 193k but one owner 11month rego service history for 7k.

I don't want to tinker too much but have a few questions ;

1. Although they were 220kw at 192k how much power loss should I expect .. its much slower then the wife's 206kw golf r ?
2. I would like a better note .. is a resonator delete good enough? Or Shold I just pay for a catback system ?
3. Turning circle is horrible .. just thought I'd throw that out there.
4. Performance increase wise .. is there any one in sydney that can tune these?
5. The stereo is shocking .. is there a mod for a single or double din setup ?

Cheers everyone!

1. None, it weighs 50% more than the golf and its torque limited in first 2 gears
2. Turbo back if you really want a difference, the Milltek system sounds amazing
3. Yes.... it really is
4. You can get a soft loader from a ton of people,
https://www.elevatecars.com/store/volvo-s60-2010.html is my first thought
5. Stereo should be amazing, but might be broken or PO might have done something stupid, the Premium Audio system in a P2 had a seriously good sound stage for a stock car
Here you go !
Welcome here!
I nearly looked twice at this car! But,being manual ( and with THAT dead ugly 'Spaceball' gearstick...) plus not being a wagon , i let go....
Glad you found your way here!

With these kits , be sure they integrate with RHD Australasian cars and check the speakers to see if they are all in good condition , then get some amps maybe.....

Wow so much useful info !

Do you not think at 192k on the clock it's a little tired for performance upgrades ?

Is this the same engine from the old ford focus RS ?

1. No, the Merikans take ones with 300K miles on them and then abuse them and they are fine, the block is stupid good with the slightly upgraded rods that the R's got
2. No

Volvo engines do not get "tired" or worn out. They will last forever.

OK, a lifetime.
Ok this great .. have a few more questions after I did 400kms today ..

1. Does advance mode actually add more power ?
2. Turbo lag is more then I expected .. but maybe I'm comparing to the mk7 golf r
3. Is DSTC the same as plain old traction control?
4. Im taking it for service this week .. should I be advising the mechanic anything over and above what's expected ? Ie full synthetic oil only or don't matter etc

Sorry for the many questions !
Bear can advise an indie Volvo guy to go to up your way , definitely synthetic PENRITE oils only.
Yes , DSTC is switchable traction.
Lag can be removed or limited by a tune , go for it!
Advanced is maybe just the 4C shocks? ( they can be replaced with coilovers)

1. No, this is suspension setting only
2. Its a 2004... it has turbo lag, the turbo is way bigger than the one in the golf.... volvo left quite a bit in reserve
3. No, its stupid stability control
4. Full syn oil. I recommend only a diet of Penrite HPR10,
Also... the Gearbox is due for new fluid (75w90 full syn GL4) and the rear diff is due for new fluid (75w90 full syn GL5), you should also consider servicing the Haldex unit (Volvo oil and filter only) as well as the angle gear (75w90 full syn GL5)

Have you checked to make sure the timing belt has been done once already?

@VPT02 , Mark at VP Tuning can set you up with a lot of good performance stuff , he himself runs a quick R. he sells MTE and TME stuff from Sweden too.Plus IPD importer.
The link above to Hilton tunes. They have become rather popular it seems.
We buy our parts in the main from USA, FCP Euro, IPD, et al.
Rockauto too.
FCP has lifetime guarantee which is outstanding.
Celtic Tuning has a good website but local dealers have refused to talk to me.
Asking the UK guys they pointed me to a diesel performance place which I haven't contacted, I just want some prices!

Just a few corrections...

The car isn't torque limited in 1st and 2nd... that was only the auto cars.
The engines don't last forever... they crack cylinder liners quite frequently, even on stock engines.
15mm spacers and removing the steering stops will make it look better and give the most amount of turn. It's not perfect, but a heap better.
Advance mode also sharpens up the throttle response.
HPR10 doesn't meet the ACEA rating the S60R needs. The sticker on the rad support says it needs an ACEA A1/B1 which the Penrite is an A3/B4. ACEA A1/B1 and A5/B5 generally are packaged together as the 1 is high performance and the 5 is high performance with longevity. Interstingly, Penrite 0/30 oil for the later VEA Volvo engines specifically state for the oil not to be used while the vehicle is in warranty.
DSTC can be turned off by pressing for one second and releasing the DSTC button then repeating twice more. The LH lower information screen will change from DSTC reduced to on, to reduced to on, to DSTC OFF.
BSR in Sydney could order in a Ferrita complete exhaust or get a 3" downpipe and get a custom 3" straight through system made.
ShemTek is doing ME7 tunes for these now and can also add antilag.... use it at your own peril.
Don't waste your money on the Bluepower unit. They are crap and have been since they were released. The newer versions also have multiple issues. The sound from them is also much worse than the stock unit so I suggest getting a good used unit to replace what you have. There is a trim piece that replaces the unit and phone with a double DIN cutout.

Regards,

Michael
thanks for the corrections michael .. i did read that advanced mode added throttle response but wanted to clarify .. so thanks for that.

i rang castle hill exhaust .. and they estimated $1400 for a turbo back system .. but when i rang VP Tuning in Melbourne for a tune and mentioned the exhaust .. he said thats way too cheap and that he doesnt realise its a twin setup and the actual cost will be around $3k ! .. to me this is not worth it .. as the car cost $7k

VP tuning also asking $1275 for a tune that is both stage 1 and 2 ready and i have to use this cable and send back.

I am now thinking ill ditch the exhaust idea due to the expense .. and just get a resonator delete and go for a stage 1 tune. he also said i need a laptop with XP on it ..which seems a little too much mucking around for me.

unless someone else in sydney can do this for me ??
ok BSR do tunes aswell ..just looked it up !
quoted $750 for the tune at BSR .. suppose to bring it to 354HP at the fly for stage 1.
damn i need a radiator!

does anyone know a place i can get a cheap S60R radiator or can they fix them ? crack right where the bloody hose is.
