Thanks for all your advice regarding limp idle. I suspect the K jet fuel distributor is dirty. Made contact with Colin from
k-jet.biz who has been rebuilding them since '93. He is based in SE QLD. It will cost $350 for a refurbished K-jet. Good for a chat, he advised that I test the fuel return pressure, to make sure the line is fine before sending the unit down. He says 1000ml/ 30sec is acceptable. On his website he documents how to run the
test.
Somewhat defeated, the time has come to hand over the car to a mechanic. Trying to find someone in Townsville experienced with these older models, my leads all pointed to Hans. He is the mech at European Car Specialist. Old School, easy to deal with, he has been real transparent with the fix. Towed into the workshop with Greene for $65.
A breakdown of the
labor costs that I have been quoted to get her back onroad:
$132 initial inspection included boot hinge fix, bonnet hinge fix, bonnet lever fix
$50 engine / transmission mounts replacement
$50 bushes front suspension and steering rack replacement
$132 to get wheels aligned at another workshop
$380 for fuel line and k jet distributor clean (This should be cheaper because original plan was to soak and try to clean)
