Hi guys, I just replaced the alternator in my 82 244, and then I used it to jumpstart my friends mx5. apparently the battery insulators on the mx5 were coloured incorrectly from factory so the negative jumper lead got connected to the positive battery terminal. The mx5 then went completely dead, no dash lights or anything. The volvo seemed fine but then later that night I went to start it and heard what sounded like the fuel pump buzzing towards the rear of the car. It started and drove fine and when I turned it off the noise had stopped. The next morning however the battery was completely dead. Whats going on?

Faulty ignition switch maybe

Sounds like your fuel pump relay is stuck open. I'd dig that out, pop the cover and check the little paddles are still free to move.

I have a spare here if it's rooted.
