@ALVO360 once you have it all cleaned up, you can keep all that carbon build-up away by changing the oil more often. I do oil every multiple of 5000km and filter every multiple of 10000km and I've had engines that are still spotless inside after several years of use.

A bit of cleaning today. There's some pitting on the deck but nothing major. I will be preparing the block tomorrow for a respray. I have decided to just clean this motor and replace all gaskets and seals. Cylinders are pretty good. Still has cross-hatching showing and no damage, just normal wear. I will replace the valve stem seals and clean + lap valves + inspect for damage....
I just think it's risky running a freshly built engine before I iron out all the potential problems first.

Lots more cleaning today followed by some painting. Paint stripper is nasty stuff!
I have decided that while I'm here i will check the rod bearings, pistons and rings for wear.
And clean my garage...again.

It's hard to get a good photo of the true colour (it's a little darker than it looks) because of the fluorescent lights in my garage. But it's looks neat and im satisfied. New Welsh plugs on the horizon, too.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement oil trap, flame trap or PCV kit for my b230 engine? Are they all the same for the red block engines?

You can sub out any of those parts with cheaper alternatives ~~(Uro make an oil separator I think you can get via RockAuto)~~ but just a heads up the Pro Parts Sweden flame trap hose (the little S-ish shaped one) is a total POS, I had one split within a couple of days of installing.

I also had an aftermarket oil trap split along its seam. Handy for cleaning it, actually, and afterwards I JB-Welded it back together, but it's a lot of hassle and it really shouldn't split open ever.

Oil filter is more important than the oil itself. It's a false economy to not do both. This is via information from someone high up in teaching at gmh.

Mid thrust motors are more likely to move on the thrust from load. Checking the bearings will be your best bet about whether to keep this unit.

No need to get a b230ft! A b230f or fb is just fine with bigger than stock injectors with lh2.4.

+1. Its been proven multiple times that changing a filter too often actually negates the effectiveness of the filter. A filter gains efficiency the older it gets and then drops off after it reaches peak efficiency.
