Can you estimate the cost of your super-charging the 164?
I'm considering doing this to any 960 I buy but would like to know what I might be up for.

That is tricky to answer. Depends how much work you want to do yourself, which supercharger you want to use, what you would like to do with engine management and heaps more.
It honestly could vary from a few hundred dollars to many thousands depending on what result you are after.
if i had a B6304S I would turbocharge it for sure..... no question about it.
Yeah, just way too many variables to put an accurate price tag on that job. When I looked at buying a new head unit here the prices ranged from $3k-$7k depending on what you wanted. That's just one piece of the hardware.

This just makes turboing it a lot more appealing.
I've seen belt driven superchargers which look and work like turbochargers. Made in Holland. Simple space and efficient. They were designed for use on BMW's from memory.

Vortechs were quite popular for a while in Australia on Commodores and Falcons, They fell out of favour for turbochargers for a good reason on the most part.
A t6 engine isn't too expensive and can be made to fit in an 960/S90, install bigger turbos and it is a rocket with minimal lag!
supercharger headunits cost a lot more than turbos due to volume sold.....but they have benefits over turbos in some regards. Each has their own pros and cons. IF cost is your main concern then go turbo.
I've always supercharged my play cars because they were mostly used as daily drivers and don't affect maintenance schedules, Also, sometimes it's a lot easier to package a supercharger than a turbo in an engine bay.
p.s. when I supercharged my last mazda astina (protege5 hatchback) it was faster than an equivalent turbocharged astina on half the boost, with no intercooler. My car made 98whp NA and 158whp on 4.5psi with a non-intercooled supercharger. It was faster (at the drag strip) than turbo astinas that dyno'd around 180whp.
But if we then compare turbo volvos to supercharged ones. The turbo volvos are always faster when modified. Unsure how a turbo affects maintainence when you have to change and adjust belts on supercharged cars often compared to any work on turbo vehicles.

yeah. the only supercharged volvo's I've seen have used budget blowers in ways they were not designed for.. Not saying they are bad builds just not optimal designs.
If I had the time here with my new 244 I'd build it with a proper vortech/powderdyne/rotrex and then we could make an apples/apples comparison.

not that busy but don't want to sink that kind of money into a vehicle that I'll only have a few months and have no hope of getting the $$ back out of when I go to sell it on.

I don't know too much about superchargers. What type has @Ben got on his 240? After watching his YouTube vids, it wasn't the supercharger whine that I'm used to hearing on v8's.
Looked like abb Eaton m60 if memory serves. It's a twin screw compressor also known as a "roots blower". They are designed to replace the intake manifold and force air directly into the head...not to be fed through a tube into a throttle body. The air uncompresses when that happens. The roots blower, when mounted to the head directly tends to give larger torque increases than horsepower. Tits is why smaller cars like the original mini and merc c230 use them. Makes up for the lack of torque with real low boost and lower intake temps.
