Fitting rear window chrome/stainless trim

Hi All,
I am part way through fitting a replacement rear window trim and struggling. Any tips on getting the chrome/stainless into the groove? Is there a special tool to guide it in?

I think the original service manual for the 240 and 1800, which have similar trim iirc call for using a cord to work the rubber back around the trim. Similar to using a cord to install the rubber gasket around the pinch weld when installing that type of rear window glass. It's hard to describe but if you Google it you might find some pictures. Some people state it's easier to replace the trim while the glass and seal are out, but I'm assuming you didn't pull the whole glass and rubber seal out.

Further to my comment I found my 68 140 greenbook manual and here's what it says about fitting the rear trim (or windscreen trim as procedure is same):

Hope that helps. Regardless I think the trim is a bitch to install which is why it often gets left off. Good luck!

It is truly a pain in the ass, but it is doable per the above instructions. The diameter of the cord is important too.

Diameter of the cord is the most important part. I struggled with 1mm or so sized cord for hours as that's what I'd just successfully used to put the window back in the car. Switch to thicker cord and I had the chrome trim in within minutes.
