mvn Hi All, owner of a new XC90 - what a beast! Volvo on-call is not around the corner anytime soon for Australia, however there are many instances where having the in-built 4G modem and SIM card in the XC 90 would be brilliant - i.e. for RTTI, streaming, wifi in the car, etc. I know this can be done through a tethered phone, but there are a few use cases where the stand alone modem would be superior. I have two options - aftermarket and look at a brand like Teltonika, but I'd prefer an OEM solution. So does anyone know if I can source a 4G modem from somewhere for the XC90 and install it? Or is this not possible due to extra cabling that is not present? Thanks!
Philia_Bear Afaik it's can bus integrated and because not approved for Aus market you will never get it programmed to be activated unless an aftermarket hack I've just got a 4g hotspot, works fine and is not tied to the car so can use anywhere with any device
mvn Thanks @Philia_Bear - I did fear that was the case. I asked Volvo (head office, not dealer) if they would ever offer a retrofit option if on-call came to Australia and couldn't get an answer. Does anyone know if the cabling in the car exists? If not, retrofit would be unlikely I assume so I would be better of with a semi-permanent Teltonika or similar solution.
Ex850R As Bear says, a $100 Telstra mobile WiFi device and plan on top will get you good range around the car, can have external antenna etc.
PaddlerEd RTTI = Real Time Traffic Information? If so, in the UK spec old systems that used to run via the RDS radio signals that pushed through traffic announcements. Wonkipedia has a bit about it as well, and why Australia won't get it...
